Chapter 50

Calm tides

I still can't believe it.

My thoughts remained in my head as I agreed on the preaching in front. Like when the promise is not fulfilled.

I was so active in church, even though I was not a Levite. I made promises to God but when I was in college, especially third year college, all those things vanished. I forgot my promise.

Commitment means high tides or storms, clear skies, or great downpours, whether the wind is splashing or not, you will stay. And as for me, I faltered.

I was blessed to be given a chance to make it all right. To God, to my family, and to him, Deo. And second chances shouldn't be wasted.

I gazed at Deo who was still and focused on listening in front. He was listening intently to preacher in front. Arms crossed and head tilted, sa sobrang okupado niya ay parang nakakalimutan niyang katabi niya ako. That serious face, I'm fond of it. I shifted my head to the side and smiled secretly.

"Stop smiling," he suddenly leaned and whispered.

His face is inches away from mine.

"Bakit ba?" tanong ko.

"Nahahawa ako. Your smile is contagious."

"What do we do now?" I asked, whispering. I pointed to the ring on my finger.

He clicked his tongue and shook his head. He shifted my head to the front gently. "Let's talk about that later, for now, let's focus on listening."

I waited until the preaching was over. Agad kaming nilapitan ni Satari, I was surprised to see Claire beside her. Lau with a staff earpiece following on their backs. Siguro ay dahil nasa harapan sila kanina.

Deo swiftly entertained our hands, that was swift but I felt like I was a teenager getting the kilig over and over again.

"Mabuti at nakarating kayo? Sorry I wasn't able to greet earlier, we were checking the sounds," sabi ni Satari. She hugged me so tight na sinuklian ko lang nang yakap gamit ang isang braso because I was holding Deo's hand with the other.

Claire punched Deo's shoulder lightly and whistled. She eyed our intertwined hands.

They probably didn't notice the ring yet since Deo's hands are bigger than mine.

Napasipol rin si Lau sa nakita. "Indeed a rare sight."

Her brows shot up and crossed her arms.
