Hazel POV:
It's the following Monday after our visit with Briella and her family. It was a nice trip and Mila was sad to go. Now, Theo and I chilling in bed before work. My pea is still asleep in her crib, so I let her be. Instead of being productive like I should, I turn onto my side to grab the remote control. Some trashy morning television in bed sounds like the perfect Monday morning to me.
"She's going to be upset when she wakes up to find she's not in our bed." Theo says as he crosses his arms behind his head. Mila fell asleep in our bed last night. I ended up putting her in her own bed. As much as I love to cuddle with my baby, Theo and I needed some adult time.
Shrugging, I lean back against my pillow. She'll be okay. "What do you want me to make for breakfast this morning?" I question Theo. Truthfully, I would rather go out to eat.
His green eyes meet my own. With his messy hair falling in front of his face, he looks like how he did when we first met. "How about we go out? We'll take two cars, so I can drive to the office afterwards." It's like he took the words right out of my head.
Smiling, I nod. My smile is short lived, though. Mila's cry blares into our room. It's not her normal cry. Nope, it's her newborn cry. Eyeing my husband, I stand and enter her nursery. My baby is on her back in bed. Her tiny hands are clenched into fists as she wails. Poor thing.
"Mommy's here, pea. Don't cry, sweet thing." I coo as I lift her. Just as I thought; newborn headspace. Her body's floppy and her neck rolls if I don't support it.
Bringing her close to my chest, I walk to the changing table to get to work cleaning her bum. I'm going to have to give her a bath, considering the fact that she has a complete diaper blowout. Turning to my husband I ask, "Can you get the baby tub for her? She needs a bath."
Theo nods and goes off to do as I asked. Meanwhile, I'm trying to calm Mila as she cries. She hates getting diaper changes when she's in infant headspace. "I know, baby. You're all gross. Daddy's running you a bath now." My words seem to calm her just the slightest fraction. The tone of her cries lower and her bunched up hands relax.
"Baths ready!" Theo bellows. Lifting Mila, I carry her into the bathroom and lay her down in the purple baby tub we have for her. At the first touch of water to her skin, she releases the happiest coo I've ever heard. It's adorable.
We quickly wipe her down, change out the water, then leave her to play a little bit. She kicks her legs happily while giving me that adorable smile that I love so much. Newborn headspace may be a tad bit frustrating for me, but I also love it. Frustrating because all she wants to do is nurse. Nevertheless, I love when she's all cuddly and sweet. It's a nice reprieve from my sassy toddler.
"Does that water feel good? I bet it does!" Theo says in a babyish voice. Chuckling, I nudge him with my elbow, making him turn to face me. He winks and goes back to talking to Mila. God, he loves her so much.
"Can you go put her towel on the warmer? She'll love that." Theo stands do to my bidding while I stay right beside my precious pea. Newborn headspace and water don't mix. Mila and water don't mix. Period.
"Done." My husband says happily as he squats back down at my side. It'll take a couple minutes for the towel to heat, so we let Mila splash around for a little bit longer. Eventually, when the water starts to go cold, I grab her towel and lift her out of the water. She fusses and squirms, quickly calming when her damp cheek presses up against my breast.
"She probably wants to nurse. I'll go get a diaper for her, so you can nurse in bed." With that said, Theo turns on his heel and heads to our baby's nursery, returning with said diaper.
