Previously:

The avengers all leave Hiccup and Toothless in the tower to enter the storm and the battle that has developed outside. This storm seems to be sticking, and there are mysterious looking creatures and machines emerging amongst it. Dr Strange is going to try and work on a portal to send them home, but considering he didn't know how to get Hiccup back it's not looking like it'll be very soon (once again, it'll be up to Wong to carry them) (no this isn't being ghost written by Wong, don't be ridiculous.)

Refer to the last chapter for Peter's recollection of the recent events

The sky lights up by explosions periodically, some caused by the robots crashing into the buildings and weird wheeled contraptions that litter the streets, some caused by the streams of fire coming out of Tony's suits—and another suit quite similar to it— taking down the metallic 'ultrons' or the weird slimy (and yet somehow dry) looking bug-like creatures. There's also a giant green guy running around, but he looks to be on the good side (?) cause he's only destroying the Ultrons and the bug things.

Toothless and I have been standing in front of the window for the past however long, restlessly watching the battle because there's nothing else we can do. As of recently it's really not looking good. Sure, the storm has cleared and sure, that has stopped what was an endless stream of the things from falling down... but there's so so many of the 'ultrons' and giant bugs... and only like a dozen of the good guys. I don't remember what they call themselves. Whoever they are, they're in way over their heads.

There's the obstacles of buildings and the wheeled contraptions, there's actual people being caught up in it all, and not to mention having to constantly watch their backs— it's all making it harder to get an upper hand. Is this what their world is like? Is this the kind of thing they've had to deal with in the past?

I sigh, arms crossed as I stare out the window. Toothless watches the battle with me for a while longer before he grunts and looks up at me. I hold his gaze for a few seconds, knowing we're both thinking the same thing. I nod.

"...as for the numbers of the invaders, It is unclear at this time." One of the screens is talking about the battle (and it has been since it started) in the background, but I don't pay too much attention to it. "We continue to advise you to stay indoors if safe to do so and let the Avengers do their job. Mark, over to you."

[......A small amount of time later......]

"...and yes, while they bare an unsettling resemblance to the robots that attacked Sokovia a few years ago, it is clear that the two are not one in the same."

I step back into the room, now donned in my armour. I slip my shield onto my back, glad that I grabbed it because I know it'll probably come in useful. Toothless looks away from the window when I walk in and bounds over to me. "Hey, bud." I greet him. "You ready?"

He looks at his tail and warbles in affirmation. I tap the saddle that's tucked under my arm and he manages to hold still long enough for me to attach it.

"I would strongly advise against whatever it is you have in mind," FRIDAY warns me.

"Well, it's a good thing I never listen!" I retort with a grin, slipping my helmet on. I hop onto the saddle and attach myself securely, I don't particularly feel like making another crash landing today. I'd taken some painkillers earlier, so my side doesn't really hurt. They work well, but I don't think big movements are going to help. Oh well.

"Hiccup it's—"

"A great idea, I know!" I interrupt, nudging Toothless to run towards the window as I slip my foot into the stirrup. We catch sight of the one Spider-man went through and head towards that one as it's still open. We ignore any more warnings from FRIDAY and bound out of the window, Toothless' wings catching the wind and taking us up and into the sky successfully as I flick open the tail.

We climb up high into the sky, both beaming from the exhilarating feeling of flight— that feeling we've been missing. "Yeah!" I cheer, patting Toothless' head happily as we level off high above the chaos. He looks back at me, pumped. "Alright, bud. Let's show em what we've got!"

He croons in agreement and looks down for a second, before flipping us over into a dive. I hang in close to the saddle, searching for the target he's picked as we arrow down. I spot it, or rather them, a whole heap of machines about to overwhelm Spider-man. The signature Fury whistle cuts through the air as we pick up speed, and I catch sight of several of the beings below—both good and bad— stopping to look up at us as we steadily approach.

Toothless fires a carefully aimed plasma blast, which hurtles down and blows the robots apart— the ones that don't explode burst into a ball of hot flames. I cheer loudly as we pull up and swoop by the now free Spider-man, the force of our direction change sending robots flying. "DID YOU SEE THAT?!" I hear Spider-man exclaim in what I hope is excitement as we speed away and out of ear-shot.

"Good job, bud!" I praise with a laugh. I hope that attack was enough to convince the others that we can help.

We make a large loop and duck back into the battle, expertly cutting and rolling through the air as we dodge projectiles and help to keep the enemies grouped together— even plucking one or two up to drop them back down, which at least seems to do some damage (unlike when they were first falling from the sky, which was weird. But I guess whatever got them here needed them to be in fighting condition or something).

The weird bug things are a whole other story, they're brittle but they're kinda fast and have these retractable horns that we have to be careful of. A few also have wings, but they're not very strong and only get a few meters off the ground before crashing or giving up.

I hate to think that we're killing living things, and I try to distant that thought with the idea that we're helping this place, that they're evil and definitely won't stop until one of our sides are dead— I'm hoping we can help keep it from being us.

There we go, they've joined the battle! Sorry it's quite a short chapter 😅

Don't forget that you can leave any suggestions or feedback you have, I can't guarantee I'll use it ofc cause I've planned out the book already, but it can't hurt!

Reader feedback is important to me because I'm a people pleaser and crave validation lmfao 💀
