Flashback
"Mama!" I shout, tears coming down my eyes as my mom continues to hit me.
"Quedarse quieto mijo!" She shouts back (Translation: Stay still darling)
She walks away and I can finally breathe again. Tears still pouring down from my eyes. I look down at my body. Bruises, loads of them.
I had just gotten back from school. I was so excited to show my mother that I had aced my Art project. This project took me weeks to make.
When I got home my mom started yelling at me saying I was a disappointment. I didn't get a one hundred percent but I did get a ninety-eight percent on the project.
"hazlo mejor hijo" she said to me grabbing my ear pinching it so I would listen (Translation: Do better son)
"Mama eso duele" I say to her as I begin crying out (Translation: Mom that hurts)
She later then comes back with a knife in her hand. She walks up to me and I begin to run away from her. I run to my room and shut the door making sure I lock it.
I hear banging at my door and my mom screaming
"ARES ASHER SALAZAR! ABRE LA PUERTA AHORA!" (Translation: Open the door now"
I sit on my bed crying looking out the window and grab my sketch pad and begin drawing letting my emotions cloud my mind.
3 years later
It was my birthday. I had just turned 12. I had come home from school excited. My father always made me my favorite cake for my birthday. That's when I lately discovered my father wasn't home.
"Where's papa?" I ask my mother
She completely ignore me and throws plates on the floor breaking every single one.
I get startled from the smashing and look at her
"Mama qué paso?" I question her trying to comfort her (Translation: What happened?)
