"Cordelia? Cordelia is that you?" My father calls out as Kaylee drags me through my front door.
"I'm homee!" I shout at the top of my lungs, expecting my dad to be up in the office, not standing in the kitchen with a disappointed look plastered across his face.
Or at least I think it's a disappointed look, but right now I can't really see much.
"Daddy!" I happily cry as I lunge towards my always-too-busy-for-his-once-princess-daughter. His warm arms envelope me, but they fail to hug me as tight as I do; in fact, they're barely wrapped around me.
He sniffs my body before letting out a monotoned "She's drunk." to Kaylee who only exhales a deep sigh.
"I guess it's better than what she could be." I catch Kaylee reply and my brows furrow.
"I'm not drunk daddy, I promise." I try my hardest to convince him but it doesn't work, it never does.
"The day I get back and I'm greeted with a drunk daughter, are you serious Beau?" He says whilst letting me go, and I fail to figure out which hurts more- him letting me go or calling me by my first name.
"I'm sorry, I'm only drunk. Was only drunk, I think I'm sober already." I quietly mumble the last part to myself. Why cant I drink like every other teenager? The way he reacts when he finds me under alcohol only suggests that he doesn't trust me, that he thinks I'll make a stupid decision intoxicated. And I don't understand it.
"Come on B." Kaylee says whilst gently pulling my arm towards her and directing us up the stairs. I hide the lone tear that escaped my eye, I missed him so much and the day he gets back I had to be intoxicated by some sort of substance. I cant seem to do anything right.
"I'll get dressed first and then you ok?" Kay says as we enter my bedroom arm in arm, but the minute I notice something moving in the cage on my floor I immediately rush to the other side of my bedroom where my precious resides.
"Ettie!" I cry as I open the cage and take out my baby girl, my baby mouse.
"Juliette I missed you so much are you ok?!" I ask my only close possession, three days at the vet was far too long.
I gently stroke her soft fur, admiring the cute little eyes that resemble nothing other than a black dot right now. I allow her to hop between each of my hands before placing a kiss ontop of her head and shutting the cage door shut again.
Kaylee comes out of my bathroom, dressed in some thick shorts and a matching long sleeve pyjama top, she's always been cold blooded.
"Ettie is back, go say hello" I fumble on my words but they get there in the end. Kaylee makes her way over to Juliette, shes the only friend I've ever made that didn't call me crazy for having an obsession with mice and rats. After all she has known me since I developed the obsession in the first place but still, shes one of the few people that know I actually have one.
