Zoey's POV

The sun glows, hitting the aged yellow pages on my mythology book that seems to be handwritten.

Vurthron's look and sound human, to others, they may even smell like humans. The only way to distinguish one, is to anger it. When a Vurthron gets extremely angered, you will see their pores enlarge and seep the toxin they hold within them.

Doing this could result in death to mammals around the area, be cautious.

More questions than answers swirl around in my head.

Have I ever been that angry? I was angry when I found my parents, I was angry when I lived in the group home, I was angry when I was bullied. But it's possible that I was more sad by all of that.

"Zoey?" I hear Poppy call out before opening my room door.

Knowing she doesn't typically knock, I just wait for her to open it.

"I'm bored." She states, plopping down on my bed next to me.

I cringe as I bend the page of the mythology book. I don't have a bookmark, but I definitely need one so I can stop creasing the pages.

"Want to go shopping?" I suggest teasingly, knowing she hates to shop.

She looks up at me with no amusement on her face, "wow, an honor."

I giggle and toss the book onto my nightstand, "okay okay, how about we go to the mall, get an unhealthy amount of food, and people watch for a while."

Her lips curl into a smile, "lets go."

I quickly slide on my white, scuffed sneakers that match with my ripped skinny jeans and brown t-shirt.

Maybe Poppy will let me go into a few stores for some fall clothes.

As soon as we race down the stairs, Nik stops us.

"Where you two going, love?" He asks while holding a white coffee mug that most definitely doesn't have coffee in it.

"To the mall. Want anything?" I ask, batting my eyelashes.

His eyes look to the ceiling in thought, "how about you surprise me with something." He says as he pulls a red card out of his wallet.

Jackpot.

I nod, happily taking the card that I'll spend at least fifty dollars just on food with.

It's nice to see that Poppy and Wyatt still thoroughly enjoy food even though they don't need it to survive. Nik and Jett don't eat at much, Wyatt is a fat kid at heart in a muscular mans body.

Poppy and I get into her old car that compared to the other cars, seem beat up. As long as it drives and gets us to where we need to be, it's a good car to me.

The car shakes slightly as we are on the highway, I've noticed that the faster we go, the more it shakes.

"I'm going to see if anywhere is hiring. I think this old piece of shit needs to retire." She says as the car screeches taking a left turn into the mall.

The outside seating area looks beautiful this time of year. The rows of benches surrounded by yellow, orange, and red trees as the leaves trickle down to the ground.

Poppy and I lock arms as we walk through the mall. It's not as packed as I expected, but I guess that's because we came at one in the afternoon on a Tuesday. Most people are at work or school, lucky for us.
