Yeonjun's eyes were full of sadness and grief as he watched from the window as the red-haired boy lay motionless in the reanimation chamber before him, connected to a multitude of monitors and machines that beeped in time with his heartbeat and breathed for him. He looked like a corpse - lifeless, unmoving - and it made tears sting at the corners of Yeonjun's eyes as he looked up into the young male's closed eyes and waited for the boy to blink... But he never did.
There was no sign of life, but for now, they hoped the boy would wake up again soon. They had done what they could to save him, but there was little else they could do other than keep him on life support until he awoke... or died. And that didn't sound very pleasant. At least not to Yeonjun.
Yeonjun let out a sigh and turned away from the window as he wiped at the tears on his face. He took his phone out of his pocket and called Taehyun, wanting to make sure that the boy was alright by himself at home after everything that had happened that day. The younger picked up on the first ring. "Hey, hyung."
Yeonjun smiled weakly at the soft voice, grateful for the calmness and compassion in Taehyun's tone. "Hey, how are you holding up?" He asked, rubbing the back of his neck as he stepped closer to the chairs and seated himself on one of them.
"Good," Taehyun said simply, though Yeonjun could sense the strain behind it. "How is Beomgyu hyung doing?"
His question brought more heaviness to Yeonjun's heart and left him feeling hollow. "He's still unconscious," he answered quietly, lowering his head. "Doctors aren't very hopeful."
There was a moment of silence from the other side of the line and Yeonjun knew his words must have hit an emotional chord with Taehyun because it felt much longer than just seconds before the younger finally spoke up again. "I don't know if I can go through all of this again..."
Yeonjun understood the sentiment completely; he'd been through enough trauma to last him a lifetime, too. It was only fitting that Taehyun should be suffering through similar pain. "Me neither," he admitted softly and sighed heavily before running his fingers through his messy locks, "I'll stay for one more hour, and then I'll be back, alright?" He promised.
Taehyun hummed softly in agreement and then hung up. Yeonjun slipped the phone into his pocket, turning towards the glass window and watching the blue sky outside slowly change from its usual warm colors to a darker shade of indigo. He couldn't help but wish for something different. Something better...
Taehyun, on the other side, remained silent. His breathing grew shallow as his mind went through countless memories of him and Beomgyu together as he watched the TV screen in front of him without actually paying attention to it as he sat in his wheelchair. He was feeling empty inside and it seemed like every part of him was screaming, begging him to do anything but sit here helplessly waiting, however, he couldn't even stand on his feet, so how would he manage to do anything to help his past lover?
