5. His Family

"Navika, wake up. your in laws will be here soon" Mummy's voice came with my the door of my room opening. I blinked my eyes to adjust to the light and looked towards the gate to see a faint shadow of mummy

"Have you thought what you are going to wear and please clean your room" she said in a hyper tone and I reached for my phone. I opened my phone and saw the time. It was only 7:30 in the morning

"Mummy they will not be here till after 12 and please let me sleep" I said and turned my face the other side covering my face with the duvet  

"Okay but I need help with the arrangements. Your father has already gone out to buy all the stuff" she said sounding worried and I turned towards her again and opened my eyes properly and looked at her

"Mummy, don't worry and go downstairs. I will be downstairs in some time" I said and gave her a its all okay look and she nodded her head along with a big sigh

"But be down fast and you also have to get ready" she said and I hummed closing my eyes and trying to dose off again. 

I opened my eyes after sometime because sleep looks like a far away dream now. I opened my phone and saw it was only ten minutes passed and sat on my bed and thought of going down and helping mummy finally. I head to my bathroom and take a bath and get downstairs. 

"Finally you are here" mummy said as soon as I entered the kitchen and I gave her a look

"What should I do" I asked as looked around all the stuff in the kitchen and she moved towards the other side of kitchen doing some stuff and told me to prepare some dishes and I started my work

"Have you decided what you are going to wear today?" she asked and I nodded my head 

"Yes" I said and continued doing my work

"And please tell me you decided on some thing pretty and not your pantsuits" she said and I snapped my head towards her being a little offended at this

"My pantsuits are pretty too" I said in a whiny tone and heard mummy laugh

"Sure they are" she said and I made a face and continued doing my work

"So, what did you choose" she asked and I looked towards her 

"A saree" I said and and saw mummy smiling and continued my work

I hear the doorbell ring and look towards my gate. They are here finally. I look at myself in the mirror and smile. I am wearing a green colored bandhani kind of saree. I bought this for the wedding of one of my colleagues and ended up wearing another one. 

I look at myself once more in the mirror and start walking downstairs but stop remembering that mummy said that she will come to call me. I sit back in front of the mirror and look at myself trying different ways to put my hair into. 

"Navika" I hear mummy's voice and the door of my room opened. I turned to look at mummy and stand with a smile as I see her expression and eyes roaming over my attire. 

"You look so beautiful" mummy said walking towards me and I smiled brightly. Her expressions changes as she looks around my room and shakes her head

"Its good Arjun is organized or you both would be living in a mess" she said and I gave her a look

"He is" I asked and mummy hummed as we both started downstairs together. I stopped as we reached the foot of the stairs and took a look around the living room. There are way too many people but I know all of them. I remind myself this and take a deep breath before walking towards all of them with a smile.

I first walk towards Arjun's Tauji and Taiji and say greetings to them before moving towards his parents who smile at me. I then greet Arjun's cousin and sibling and their wives and they also greet me back with a smile.

I look at Arjun at last and see him already looking at me with a smile. I smile back at him and give a look over what he was wearing. He was wearing a proper suit which was all black with little pattern on his shirt and was looking very handsome today too.

"Sit here" Gargi bhabhi said breaking my thoughts about Arjun and pulled me in between her and Arjun. Arjun shifted hurriedly to avoid any awkward encounter such as me falling on his lap and I am thankful for this. I turned towards Gargi bhabhi and gave her a look while she just winked at me.

Everyone starts talking again and I start listening to there conversations but shift awkwardly when my arm brushes with Arjun's. He sees this and shift too and moves himself a bit back to avoid touching me again and I turn and give him a smile like saying thankyou.

"We should start the rituals" I heard Madhuri aunt's voice( Arjun's mummy) and turn to look at everyone seeing them nod and getting started with the rituals. I sit there silently and cover my head with the end of my saree as asked by mummy

The ritual is completed now and we all are sitting near the dinning table and arranging all the dishes on it. I try to get up and help mummy but I am sent back to sit beside Arjun in my previous place. 

"Hey, Why don't you both go and take a stroll outside while all the elders eat" Virat bhaiya(Arjun' Tauji's elder son and the oldest son in the family) said looking and Arjun and I. I looked at Arjun face and saw him shrugging looking at me.

He stood up the next second and stretched while my eyes moved towards his arms which flexed as he stretched. He turned to look at me and forwarded his hand for me to take and I did. I blushed as I felt how warm his hands felt against mine and we both walked outside holding hands

"You are looking very beautiful" he said as soon as we got out of the door and I gave him a smile

"You too" I said looking at the floor with a slight blush on my face and heard him chuckle

"I look beautiful" he asked in a teasing tone and I blushed even more at his voice

"Yes" I said looking up and maintaining an eye contact with him. He smiled at this and we started walking around the garden while holding hands and talking.
