Chapter 8: Suspicions

"Ace is joining us! Party time!" Luffy, Chopper, and Usopp clinked their beer cups together, though it was filled with nothing but water.

Ace sat on a barrel next to them, drinking his own water as he raised an eyebrow at their words. "Who said I was joining you?"

I smiled at the interaction, finding it quite funny that Luffy and them didn't even bother to ask the fire male first.

"Here's to delicious drinks!"

Nami smiled at Ace, dismissing his worries or at least attempting to. "Don't worry about it! They're always looking for a reason to party."

"Ace!" Luffy called out to his brother with a grin. "Are you sure you won't be joining us?"

Ace reflected the grin as he took a swig out of his drink. "I'm chasing a certain man. His name is Blackbeard."

My eyebrows furrow at the unfamiliar name especially after everyone else seemed to know who he was.

"Blackbeard?!"

Vivi added to Usopp's revelation of the name. "He was the pirate who attacked the Drum Kingdom!"

Ace explained that he used to be a part of his division before he committed the worst crime for pirates and killed a crew member before jumping ship. "As commander, it's my duty to find him and bring him down. I came here 'cause I caught word that Blackbeard was in Yuba."

I watched Ace with an unreadable expression, not used to seeing such a responsible side of him.

"So then your destination is the same as ours?" Nami realized before looking to Vivi for confirmation.

Vivi nodded her head, showing Ace and Nami the map. Explaining that we head to pass through Sandora River and Erumalu City to get to Yuba.

Sanji's eyes turned to hearts as he expressed his body waved with delight. "I'll follow Nami-swan, Vivi-chwan, and Y/n-swan anywhere!"

"Get lost, love cook." Zoro rolled his eyes at the blonde's behavior as he held his swords close.

"Say what you-!"

"Anyways!" Nami quickly cut the two off before it escalated, not wanting to cause a scene in front of the guest. "It looks like we can travel together for a little while!"

Usopp was more than happy to comply with the idea. "Yeah! His big brother is more than welcome here!"

Luffy supports the long-nosed boy's claim with a grim. "Let's have a fun time, Ace!"

Ace grinned back at his brother before walking towards me and sitting on the stairs I was sitting on. "So how'd you get away?"

I could tell he seemed hurt that I had finally left even though I told him I couldn't. I nodded my head towards Luffy with a smile. "That idiot brother of yours was so stubborn that he beat the king up and wouldn't leave unless I went with him."

Ace chuckled at this, seemingly not surprised. "Yeah, that makes sense. Too bad he beat me to the punch."

Upon hearing those words, I looked towards him only to see him staring at Luffy with what looked like envy. "I've missed you, Ace."

His body twitched slightly at this as he smiled at me. "I missed you too."

"Y/n-swan!" The blonde man ran towards me, handing me a cold drink gently with a wide smile on his face. "A lovely drink for a lovely lady!"

I smiled at him, gratefully taking it and thanking him causing him to smile even bigger and slip away at the praise.

"Is he always like that?"
