"I beg your pardon?"
The old man sighed, the softest and most genuine smile you would ever see on an elderly person appeared on his wrinkly face
"I was caught off-guard aswell" He looked down at his lap. "I knew the time would come soon...but I just wish the angels had a bit of patience"
Hyunjin listened with tears welling up in his eyes. Yeah, sure, he hadn't spoken to the old lady unless it was that one time at the airport, but those few minutes replaced the years of his ruined childhood
Sure, she was a stranger, so was her husband, but they felt more like parents to him than his actual parents did (no offense to his mother)
So hearing about what happened to the sweet old lady he met at the airport broke him in a way he had been broken when he had been informed of Yeji's death
"It was like one second, we were young again, late night walks around the block and 3am junk food breaks. Then the next second, she's being taken away from me forever"
Hyunjin caught a glimpse of a tears falling down onto the old man's trembling hands. Sure, Hyunjin didn't know the man that well, bit holding his shaking hands was all he could do
"I'm so sorry sir" Hyunjin whispered, rummaging in his pocket with his other hand in search for his pack of tissues, handing the elder a few once he found them
The old man retracted one of his hands as he wiped away his tears with the sleeve, using both hands to blow his now stuffy nose
He folded the tissue up and threw it in the bin by his feet before turning to the male who too had tears sitting at the bottom of his eyes
"Eunkyung adored you and your boyfriend because...when she had first talked to your companion, she said she saw a bit of herself in him when he was talking about you
And as much as she, or even I, am not quite familiar with the two of you, you and your boyfriend really made a difference in her life. And I'd like to let you know, she died smiling because of the two of you"
Now Hyunjin couldn't hold back the tears. He never knew he could have such a huge impact on simply an elderly person he met once at the airport
"Next flight, Las Vegas to Melbourne, thank you" They both turned to the screen, and what the lady on the speaker announced was quite literally the truth
"It seems I need to leave you now" the man sighed, wiping away the tears from the corners of his eyes. "I have some business to do in Australia now"
Hyunjin frowned. "I didn't even realise time flew by so quick. It's quite amazing actually" Hyunjin continued, standing up go assist the man with his luggage
"Oh no son, do not feel obligated to assist me with my bags because I am old. I can roll this well on my own" He spoke in a soft voice, adjusting his glasses as he grabbed the handles of his bags
"Are you sure sir?"
The man smiled. "I am more than sure. Thank you for being such a kind young man"
Hyunjin smiled aswell before he did the unexpected, well expected for the old man himself. He suddenly pulled the male into a gentle hug, holding the order man's trembling body
