2005:
"We're here to officially name the new captain of the Third Division," Draken announced.
We took our normal places, as we stood on top of the stairs, overlooking all of the other members of Toman.
That's strange. I don't see Katsumi or Baji. They're both original members, so it doesn't make sense for them not to show up without a valid reason.
The crowd of gang members erupted into hushed chatter, trying to guess who was chosen. Mikey had never told me who it was, but Takemichi was my best guess.
He was just given Mikey's old uniform and also saved Draken. There's no way it's not him.
"Third Division captain, step forward!" The commander ordered.
No one moved.
Is it not Takemichi?
Suddenly, a short boy wearing a blonde updo and glasses stepped forward, flanked by a large guy with black hair.
I don't recognize either of these guys. Are they ex-Moebius?
Slightly confused, I glanced down to where Takemichi was standing, watching as his terrified eyes followed the new captain's every move.
The crowd continued to angrily mutter amongst themselves, peeved that a newbie jumped the ranks so quickly and proudly sat down on the step below Mikey. That simple movement was all it took for the mutters to shift into grouchy yelling about the disrespect he's showing to our commander.
I'm not one to question Mikey's decisions, regarding the Tokyo Manji Gang, but what the actual hell made him think that this was a good idea?
"Alright, listen up, you grunts!" The man with black hair growled. "Toman's new captain of the Third Division is sitting right here, behind me. Tetta Kisaki."
A chill breezed down my spine at the mention of his name.
I don't paint myself as the type to judge people before I meet them, but something about this guy is making my stomach churn. Takemichi seemed pretty scared of him. Perhaps I should ask him about Kisaki after the meeting.
As it clicked for everyone else that Kisaki was with Moebius before Toman, a "piss off" chant was started.
Honestly, I kinda want to join in on it. Mikey has definitely lost his marbles if he thinks that Kisaki can become a captain, just like that. It's one thing to force another gang's members to join our group after they lost a fight with us, but it's a completely different story to give one of them partial control over Toman. He better have a good explanation for this.
"Shut up!" Draken shouted, clearly pissed off. "That's Mikey's decision! Anyone who doesn't like it, step forward!"
Fighting every impulse in my body, telling me to step forward, I bit my tongue, waiting for my boyfriend's explanation.
"We gotta be ready to take on Valhalla! This new Valhalla we're facing is so huge that Moebius is nothing next to them. To beat them, Toman will need to grow too. Tetta Kisaki here did a good job of keeping our generation in check, while he was in Moebius. We'll need him on our side to fight Valhalla. So, Kisaki is now the new captain, remember that. This appointment ceremony is over."
I know that Katsumi would a hundred percent agree that this dude has a bad vibe to him. Honestly, I wouldn't be too surprised if he turned out to be a murderer in the future.
As Mikey turned around, and walked away in silence, Kisaki bowed to him. "Commander, thank you, sir!"
"Right."
