AN: After rereading the first ten chapters of this fanfiction, I realized that this story needs to be seriously edited (It also doesn't help that I spelled Katsumi's name wrong for the first two seasons).
2017:
Tossing and turning in my sleep was now a common nightly activity for me. The bed sheets that once radiated warmth were now ice cold. Nothing has ever been the same since Mikey disappeared a few years back.
Even though I was no closer to falling asleep, the sudden ringing of my phone still pissed me off.
With a groan, I turned towards my nightstand and reached for my cellular device. "Who the hell is calling at three in the morning," I muttered to myself.
Noticing the caller ID reading "Kimura", I raised a brow, realizing that it was my coworker from the morgue.
Alright, I just left work a bit over an hour ago. What could've gone wrong since then?
I tapped the answer button as my coworker began to speak, frantically. "At least five bodies were just dropped off from the hospital after an accident with a truck! I'm the only one here tonight, so I was wondering if you could come back to help me. It's gonna take me forever to do facial reconstructions... if there's even faces to fix."
"Of course, this happens as soon as I leave," I huffed. "But I'll help you out of respect for the families of the victims."
"Thank you so much, Sano!" Kimura sighed in relief. "I don't think that I could've taken care of all these bodies in one night."
"Give me like fifteen minutes." As I held my phone up to my ear, with my shoulder, I changed out my sleep pants for my work pants. "Just try to get the bodies into the freezers before they start attracting flies."
"Yes, Ma'am!"
I said goodbye, before slowly changing into the rest of my work atire. When I signed up to be a mortician, I did not imagine having to go back to work less than two hours after I had left.
I turned my coffee machine on, tying my hair up, while I waited for the steamy liquid to pour into my cup
This will be a long night.

Luckily, I lived within walking distance of the morgue. Due to my hatred of taking the train alone, due to how unnerving it feels to ride it late at night, Mikey decided that we should move to a house that was close to my workplace.
Why am I thinking of him again? It's been years since I've seen that sorry son of a bitch. I shook my head, attempting to purge my mind of these far-gone thoughts. It doesn't help to dwell on the past.
After unlocking the door to the funeral parlor, with my key, I headed straight for the embalming room, where I usually embalmed patients and used wax to restore their features in more horrific cases, such as this one.
My coworker, being the lovely new girl she is, had already laid the first patient on the table: a woman, around my age, with black hair.
Wait, she looks like...
It was then, when I noticed a familiar snake tattoo, which originated on her left hip, and continued to her back.
Realizing that the tattoo belonged to my best friend, I dropped to my knees. My head spun, trying to simultaneously process and deny the death of Katsumi Rin.
"Katsumi?" I helplessly muttered, failing to raise my voice above a whisper.
As tears flooded my eyes, I looked away as I struggled to stomach the image of my deceased friend.
