Once upon a time, there was a small village amongst the forests of Northern America.

Snow towered alongside stone buildings, the fierce cold clawing at the walls throughout the seasons. It threatened, yowled, and hissed to come inside.

Warm fires kept the villagers safe from the cold. They huddled up, many living in small homes regardless of overcrowding. It was simply unsafe to live alone.

Food was scarce. They found themselves starving during the winter, clutching their stomachs and feeding what little there was to the children. The men hunted ruthlessly during the day yet only came back with small game or nothing at all.

Amongst these villagers was a young little girl.

She clutched onto her windowsill- gazing from inside through the frosted glass. Her long white hair cascaded down her shoulders, ending just at her feet.

This little girl was named Selene.

Regardless of how little she was, she noticed the pain and suffering of those around her. The little girl's heart was as open as the sea- pulling in others for warmth and soothing them of their pains. She was loved throughout the village for her kindness.
Clasping her hands together- the little girl looked up at the full moon in the sky. Since birth, villagers would say she had the moon in her eyes- as if it cooed down at her like a mother. While many wished upon the stars, Selene wished upon the moon.

Peering up with hope, she'd wish for her friends to be helped. She wished for a solution to this problem and hoped and trusted the moon could help her.

Wishing upon a star, or moon in this matter, is seen as childish.

Because hope is seen as childish.

Selene was not bothered by this common saying. Her hope spread as far as the moon's light, holding the stars in her blanket of a sky like the people in her village.

Suddenly- the moon shone as bright as the stars in the sky. Though not through words, she felt it tell her that she needed to go into the forest. Her wish has been granted- and it was waiting in depth for her.

Selene pulled on her raggedy winter clothes as quickly as possible and sneaked out of her home. The cold nipped at her frail body, but the warmth of the moon kept her safe.

Following the light into the forest- she'd twist and turn, following it closely, before she'd slow down.

Ahead was a clearing.

The snowy clearing was occupied by a laying, large white wolf. Her brilliant white fur shone like the snow, as soft as a sheep's wool and dancing in the winter breeze. Selene gazed in awe of the wolf- regardless of how it dwarfed her.

The little girl peered down at the leg of the wolf.

A cold metal bear trap was attached to the wolf's thigh- keeping the poor thing there to die. If the villagers found the wolf- they'd surely kill it.
