CHAPTER 20

The battle between Bhishm and Parshuram began with Jamdagneya shooting nine hundred and sixty-nine arrows at Gangeya. And from there, it went on and on for many days. Neither of them were able to conquer the other.

Sometimes they'd shoot normal arrows at each other, other times they'd resort to divine astras. Sometimes Parshuram would make Bhishm lose consciousness, other times Bhishm would make Parshuram unconscious for a few moments.

Both were angry, and had convered the entire sky with their arrows. The whole world was anxious, not knowing what to expect.

Parshuram shot hundreds, thousands,

millions, one hundred millions, ten thousands, ten trillions and billions of swift arrows at me. But Bhishm sliced them down with his own arrows, which were like the poison of snakes.

From one day to the next, the brave Parshuram released many celestial weapons. Bhishm repulsed them with appropriate weapons that could be used for countering.

Jamdagneya had become wrathful, his anger kept getting igniting as he witnessed all his weapons getting destroyed by Gangeya.

Parshuram shot such showers of arrows that pierced and completely overwhelmed Bhishm's body, his horses, his chariot and his charioteer. The chariot of Shantanu's son was covered everywhere with those arrows, and so were his mounts and his charioteer. The yoke of the chariot, the wheels and the axle were shattered through those arrows.

When that shower of arrows was exhausted, Bhishm also showered arrows on his preceptor in return. Bhargav-Ram's body, and his mass of brahman energy, were pierced by those arrows and began to discharge a lot of blood. He was tormented by Gangeya's net of arrows. Bhishm was also suffering from many deep wounds.

And thus the battle ended like everyday, and once again began with sunrise the next day.

Bhishm's charioteer was killed in the battle, at which the son of Shantanu became agitated and dejected. For a moment he was overcome by fear. And in an instant, he fell down from his chariot after being pierced by arrows shot by Parshuram.

But he was saved by 8 Brahmanas, who didn't let him touch the ground.

"Bhayebhit na ho. Sab thik ho jayega." They told him and then helped him station back at his chariot.

There Bhishm saw Ganga, seated on the charioteer's seat, holding the reigns of the horses. He offered her his salutations.

"Mata, aapko yeh kasht karne ki awashyakta nahi hai." Said Bhishm taking the reigns of the horses in his hand, "Mai yeh swayam karlunga. Aap prasthaan kijiye."

Ganga didn't argue further, she left. Bhishm then himself took control of the horses and began to fight with Parshuram.

Bhishm shot one swift arrow, and it pierced Jamdagneya's heart. Oppressed by that arrow, Bhrighunandan lost his senses. He let go of his bow and sank down on the ground on his knees.

When he thus fell down, clouds covered the sky and showered copious quantities of blood. Meteors fell down in hundreds. There were storms and earthquakes. Harsh winds began to blow. The earth trembled.

Vultures, crows and cranes were delighted and circled around. The directions blazed. A jackal repeatedly howled in a terrible voice. Drums sounded in horrible tones, though they had not been struck.

The sun set immediately, and thus the battle ended for that day, only to once again continue the next day. From one day to another, it thus went on for twenty-three days.

That night, Bhishm was extremely dejected for he was unable to defeat Parshuram.

"Mere aur Jamdagneya ka yudh kayi dino se chal raha hai. Unhe parajit karna asambhav sa lag raha hai.... Yadi mujhme unhe parast karne ki kshamta ho, you devta meri sahayat kare." He said before lying on his bed

He fell asleep while reflecting upon this. And by divine grace, saw a dream.

Bhishm saw the eight Brahmanas from earlier today, who had helped him, standing in front of him. They were similar in forms, and as radiant as the sun. They were none other than the eight Vasus.

"Utho Bhism, bhayebhit na ho. Hum tumhari raksha kar rahe hai, kyuki tum humare hi ansh ho. Iss liye Parshuram tumhe parast nahi kar paa rahe." They said.

The eldest among them said, "Parantu tum unhe awashya parast karoge."

He raised his hand and suddenly a divine astra appeared in his hand, blazing immensely.

"Apne pichle deh mei, tum yeh astra ke parichit the. Vishwakarma ke dwara banaya gaya, prasvapan. Parshuram ko iske baare mei nahi pata, prithvi ke kisi bhi Nar ko iske baare mei nahi pata." He said.

Bhishm looked at the mighty prasvapan, and then back at the divine looking sage.

"Ise smaran karlo. Aur sampurn shakti se, Parshuram ki oor fekna. Par chinta na karna, inse unka vadh nahi hoga. Woh amar hai. Yeh astra keval unhe, nidra mei daal dega." He told.

Then he summoned another celestial weapon, "Aur fir yeh astra, sambodhana, unki murcha tod dega."

"Kal jaisa humne kaha, waisa hi karna." Another Vasu said, "Yudh mei soya huya aur mara huya, ek hi samaan hota hai. Iss liye, Parshuram ko sula ke, tum vijayi ho jaaoge."

Aur Pitamah ? Kaisi rahi ? Bada bol rahe the 'Bhishm tab paida nahi huya tha, ab Bhishm paida ho chuka hai'

Waise bhi aap tik iss liye paa rahe, Parshuram ne apne divinity ka baton Ram ji ko de diya tha aur Ram ji kabka chale bhi Gaye. Parshuram ji here is super old also + You are being protected by Vasus.

But you know what~

Bhishm is Vasu Dyou. Vasus are residents of Swarglok. Swarglok ko jeeta tha Ravan ne, with the help of Meghnaad, by defeating all the gods. Uss Ravan ko ulta karke latka diya tha Kartivirya/Sahasrabahu Arjun ne. Aur Sahasrabahu Arjun ka vadh Kiya tha Parshuram ne.

So my point is.... Pitamah you should be happy that you weren't born at that time when Parshuram was young and in his full form and full force.
