In July, the weather on the island became unbearably hot, reaching a point where outdoor work was nearly impossible from around 10 in the morning until three or four in the afternoon.

Gu Ling and the others spent this scorching period indoors, either busy with tasks or resting, and waited until the temperature became more tolerable before resuming their activities.

The sound of cicadas was incessant, and even inside the wooden house, it wasn't particularly cool. They could only repeatedly sprinkle water on the floor, relying on evaporation to slightly lower the temperature. The people who originally thought life on the island was not bad couldn't help but sigh at this moment – it was just too hot!

"If only we had an electric fan!" they thought. However, even if they had one, there was no electricity on the island, making it impossible to use.

Occasionally, Gu Ling also felt the heat, and her once fair face now had a hint of blush. She pondered, thinking that if they persisted, perhaps one day the island would have electricity. When that day came, installing an electric fan and having a telephone would make it easier for her to contact people in her hometown.

Thinking about Lin Huining, there was a sour feeling in her heart. Regardless of how Sun Xiulan and Gu Ya tried to control and manipulate her in the past, she always felt that life was okay because she had Lin Huining by her side to comfort her. She was always aware of how much Lin Huining cared about her.

Of course, she also cared deeply for Lin Huining.

She wondered if Huining received the seafood she sent? Did she like it? Gu Ling looked at the scorching sun outside and thought about giving Huining a call the next time she went into town.

It wasn't until four in the afternoon, as the sun gradually lost its intensity, that everyone started to go out. Li Haixia and Zhou Cheng went to the vegetable garden and couldn't help but exclaim with joy.

"Oh my! How did our tomatoes grow so fast! We only picked a basket yesterday, and today there are so many red ones! And these cucumbers, these peppers, it's so delightful!"

Zhou Cheng, thinking about chili, felt hungry. "Gu Ling, shall we have chili-stir-fried clams tonight?"

Clam stir-fry, commonly known as the "world's freshest," earned this title because its meat is incredibly delicious, making it the champion of flavors. When stir-fried with chili, it is indeed very tasty!

Peng Xiaoyue lazily rolled her eyes beside them. "You've already gained so much weight, and you still want to eat?"

Indeed, during this period, with various vegetables harvested one after another, everyone's meals had improved, becoming diverse, and each person had gained some weight.

Except for Gu Ling, who didn't seem to intentionally restrain herself. Even though Peng Xiaoyue complained about pinching her own belly fat once, Li Haixia educated her, saying, "Compare your food intake with Gu Ling's. You eat two bowls per meal, and she eats half a bowl. If you're not gaining weight, who is?"

Peng Xiaoyue immediately countered, "I have a tendency to gain weight easily. I gain weight even if I drink water!"

Li Haixia laughed, "No piece of meat is innocent. Does the cold water you drink confess to turning into meat? No one becomes overweight with just one bite!"

Peng Xiaoyue got upset but tried to resist eating, yet Gu Ling's cooking was just too delicious.

In fact, it wasn't just her gaining weight. In the end, everyone unanimously decided to cut down on weight by agreeing that Gu Ling would only cook one meal a day. The rest of the time, others would take turns cooking. This way, they wouldn't have to restrain themselves every meal!
