So, who exactly runs this school? The leaders are obviously high on the totem pole, but they seem to actually be ruled by the dragons. They do everything for them. Cadets are at the disposal of the dragons. They go to this school so they can earn the respect of dragons and get the chance of riding them into war. Seems like a mutual respect, but with the dragons holding a bit more power. Can't look them in the eyes, can't be rude to or in front of them.
So this golden dragon, feathertail, maybe she'll bond to this dragon instead? She's definitely important, because again we spend time pointing her out and making a big deal. If Yarros was trying to create suspense or drama with he dragons, she failed in my book.
Maybe the green dragons approaching her shows she will be good with dragons. I know it's because they smell the dragon armour, but she respects them and shows them kindness.
