"You look tired"

Usually a comment like that from someone would make her eyes roll. However considering it was Sweeney Todd who was the one saying it to her she had to admit she felt warmed by the fact he had noticed and therefore commented on it.

A whole 4 months had gone by since she gave birth to their beautiful baby girl. In those months Greta had been a blessing to their lives, especially to Nellie. Sweeney had called on the Browns asking for help considering her weak condition at the time. She felt so much better now and more like herself yet Sweeney still seemed to look at her as if she was incapable of anything. Like a toddler that always needed to have a pair of eyes on them.

Greta had not hesitated to stay with them for the first few weeks to look after Nellie while Sweeney continued to work. Not only that but with the state she had been in after giving birth she needed a woman around to help wash and clean her blood soaked sheets as she had been to weak herself to do it.

Yet Nellie had to give credit to Sweeney as well, for he had been far more tentative and caring towards her since the birth. Ok so they weren't like they once had been but it was a far better improvement from where they had been before Alice entered the world.

Sweeney had been there for his daughter staying on the couch at nights to tend to her if she cried. He didn't want Nellie straining every-time Alice cried out for her, he tried his best to take over with everything except of course the feeding, for there was no choice in that. Together they had worked as a team trying to bicker less and support each other instead. It seemed to be paying off...

Now that Nellie was getting stronger she was able to do more, maybe more then she should in Sweeneys eyes but more then she was able to do a few months ago. She had told Greta awhile back to return home now and thanked her for her help. Sweeney had also been very grateful for the help and had promised to take her and James out for dinner to thank them.

"I've just put Alice to bed, she's fed and changed....hopefully she will get some hours in tonight" Nellie replied excepting the glass of gin that Sweeney had just poured for them. It was now 9 o'clock into the evening, he had been working all day to provide them with the money they needed to keep food on their table while Nellie had been looking after George and Alice on her own. Sweeney had been there where he could but they still needed money and so he had no choice but to continue working in his barbers shop above.

Taking a sip from his glass Sweeney joined the baker on her settee and looked into the flickering flames in the fire place. A moment of silence passed as they sat sipping at their drinks, it wasn't uneasy or awkward in anyway in fact it was the exact opposite. They were at peace with each other and could enjoy each other's company without having to say a single world.

"I want ta open the shop" came her surprising statement that had him turning to look at her as if she had gone mad.

"You can't"

"I want too, think I can do it....i did it with George" she argued.

"Johanna lived here at that point, even then it knackered you" he said bluntly brining his drink back to his lips continuing to stare straight into the burning flames the crackled away in front of them.

Nellie remained silent and took another sip. Although he made a fair point there was no denying she felt at a loss, her pie shop meant more to her than just a job...she enjoyed the buzz of everyday life and missed talking with her customers. She didn't see anyone through the day, not even him! She felt lonely.

"I might try it, no harm in seeing how it goes"

"Jesus woman can't you ever just stop? You nearly died" he sounded cross and looked it as he glared towards her. Yet his eyes looked full of worry rather than real anger.
