They say true love's the greatest weapon
To win the war caused by pain, pain
But every diamond has imperfections
But my love's too pure to watch it chip away
Boy, nothing real can be threatened
True love breathes salvation back into me
With every tear came redemption
And my torturer became my remedy

"Baby I need you to calm it down before you wake your father, sit down." Amerie sighed, watching her daughter who jumped along the bed to whatever played on the TV.

Amerie loved how energetic and happy her child was, because it was only a reflection of the way she was raised and the background she came from. But sometimes, especially in the mornings, she had a little too much energy that she didn't know how to tone down. Especially as she got deeper into her toddler years.

"I'm up." She heard Syre's voice from where he comfortably lay on her, instantly bringing her focus down to where he lay his head along her chest.

He'd been sleeping for 3 days straight. He woke up to use the bathroom occasionally, then went right back in bed with Amerie to sleep again. When she would get up to take a shower or tend to Malani, he laid in bed just awake until she came back to hold him again.

Amerie didn't make him get up or try to force him up, knowing he needed sleep and was getting well needed rest. She didn't understand how he truly did not sleep on a day to day, didn't know how he functioned like that. But he was so used to it that it had no affect over him.

It wasn't the fact that he physically couldn't go to sleep, it was the fact that he couldn't sleep through the night without nightmares waking him up every single time he shut his eyes. He didn't fall asleep easily because his brain was so programmed to fear what he'd see once his mind drifted off into another land. He didn't sleep without the comfort of Amerie because she created something safe.

She was his safety net, always had been. She made him feel okay from something as simple as her touch, her words, and the softness of her kisses.

"Daddy!" Malani jumped over to Syre who she hadn't gotten to play with in days, which was heavily unusual for when she went over there.

But rather than trying to wake him up, she instead spent her time laying in bed snuggled up right under him until his little intervals of waking up. Then she'd follow him around as much as he'd allow, before he was back sleeping again. And like clockwork, she was back under him.
