𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 38: All on me

'Cause when it all comes crashin' down on me, yeah
And when the world turn they back, it's up to me, yeah
All my flaws and sins, that's all they see, yeah
And when it all falls down, it's all on me
It's all on me
It's all on me

She sat across from the main person who could give her a possible sense of understanding, to everything. Their eyes locked in on one another, just before a thick cloud of smoke gradually began to travel up between the faces of the two.

"What exactly do you want to talk about, Amerie?" Elias spoke through the cigar that sat between his damp lips.

The two occupied his office space early in the morning, away from the rest of the family who came over early to help cook and get the house together for thanksgiving dinner. Amerie honestly had no intention of being by Syre's parents for the holiday, not feeling her presence needed to be there considering they weren't together and he was in a relationship.

But, Elias made it clear he didn't want to speak over the phone. She got out one question only, but it was enough for him to understand exactly what she was getting at and what she wanted out of him. And he was transparent, didn't shy away from the conversation. But he refused to have it over the phone, not when any ears could have possibly been listening in on the words they'd exchange.

"The exact question I had over the phone about your son. Last night, I read articles, I read journal entries, I read evaluations of him in mental hospitals- I read a lot. But I'm just struggling to wrap my mind around what got him to this point." She got straight to the point, having no time to try and beat around the bush.

Raising an eyebrow, Elias couldn't help the small chuckle that sounded from his lips at the question. "He did-."

"He didn't." Amerie defended as she sat up straight. She came ready to argue with him, and she was completely fine with that.

She didn't expect him to accept how much damage he washed over his son, because as time passed, she began to learn more and more about Elias. She loved and respected him wholeheartedly, especially from how much he accepted her in and loved her daughter. But, all that also came with understanding more about him. Which included the bad and the ugly, highlighting the narcissistic tendencies he contained.

"Amerie you got to understand that boy grown as hell, he made his own decisions. He could have walked away from early on before taking on this shit, he ain't want to do that. When Syre was living with us, the boy was fine. He wasn't born with no mental issues or nothing, it wasn't until we sent him away and stuff, as a result of him acting out, did shit start developing." He explained, tightening his lips around the cigar to gradually take another pull.
