Hisoka ran beside you, matching your pace. His close eyed smile greeted you. Your mood worsen.

"You amuse me. Why does an assassin like you want to become a hunter?" He asked, attempting to converse with you.

"I don't." You replied shortly with a cold tone, sending him signals that you don't want to talk to him.

Your eyes only focused on Killua who's running way ahead of you. "Oh? Perhaps keeping you're eye on someone?" Hisoka grinned never failing to get in your nerves. But this made you realize that you were quite obvious with your task.

"You seem to be eyeing number 99. That was the first thing you did as you got off the elevator." You thought to yourself, The only way Hisoka would notice I was eyeing Killua is that if he's eyeing me from the start. You hated the thought. You needed to be more careful, you almost forgot about other people.

With the dark expression in your face because of Hisoka's attempt of conversing with you, a tall purple skinned man with gold pins on his skin wearing a bizarre green outfit matched your pace with Hisoka. The man greeted with a stiff smile, red eyes darting deeply at you.

"Gittarackur. Care to say hello to my new friend?" Hisoka mused. You find the name strange. You didn't like when he mentioned that you two were friends because you're not.

The man named Gittarackur raised his hand and said "Hello." With a somewhat distorted voice. You find the man strange, however, he wasn't familiar to you. His aura was strange, you couldn't pin point what it was, you couldn't tell if he was familiar to you or he just reminds you of someone else. You couldn't shove away the thought, distracting you from watching Killua.

At this point of the exam, a lot of people had already reached their limits and tire. You didn't even realized you were running that long. You were watching Killua and becoming more cautious with it as he was talking with others.

Your eyebrows rose as you saw Killua stopped. You ran ahead of him while making accidental eye contact. Time seemed to slow down for a moment as Killua's eyes and yours met. His eyes followed yours with a plain expression on his face. You were glad he didn't recognized you.

You wondered why he stopped but then realized that the kid around his age that he was conversing with seconds ago, whom you've heard the name was Gon stopped running as well as they seemed to be waiting for someone.

They were waiting for the man you heard the name was Leorio who was barely keeping up and bathed in sweat, breathing as if it was going to be his last day on earth. It probably is.

You knew Killua would come back and keep up with the crowd so you refrained from looking back when they were completely left behind. Your eyes already met, you couldn't risk any more suspicion from him.

You glanced at Hisoka who had a pleasant expression on his face as well as Gittarackur. Both of them reeked danger, but you were no different. It felt right to be around them only because you three seem to have something in common. Murderers.

You were now approaching the stairs which made other applicants groan, some even stopped.

A minute passed, you were glad Killua was back with the crowd. The man named Leorio sprinted full speed only wearing his tie on his neck yelling that he's going to finish the hunter exam or something like that.

You decided to trust Killua a bit more and watch him less to avoid any more suspicion from Hisoka and Killua himself. You also didn't want other people around you to notice.

As you see Killua chatting with his fellow applicants, you couldn't help but feel uneasy, you didn't know why, maybe something or someone's aura was making you feel that way. A memory of Illumi appeared in your head.

"You see, Y/N. Assassins have no use for friends."

"They weren't my friends Illumi."

"Oh? Then why were you upset that I killed them?"

A lump formed in your throat making it difficult for you to yell. "I-I'm not!" Illumi hummed with your response, his head tilted up as he squinted looking at your chained and bruised figure.

"Okay then, I believe you. I'll let you go. Only if you apologize." Illumi said, placing down the electric whip on the wooden table as he crossed his arms, the same expression on his face.

Apologize for what? You only spoke to them because they asked about the testing gate. They only gave you a compliment because they find you 'pretty'. But it wasn't the case now, your face was covered in slashes and blood.

Your chest felt heavy, you just wanted to get this over with. You finally believed it was your fault for going outside the estate and conversing with them. You scolded yourself for even replying to the kind stranger or even breathing the same air as them. I shouldn't have gone outside.

"I'm sorry, Illumi. It was my fault that you killed them, not yours, because I spoke to them. And you're right, you're only looking after me. I should have taken you seriously." You looked to his eyes and you lowered your gaze to the floor,

"Well. I'm glad you finally realize, Y/N." He replied with a joyous absent minded tone, clasping his hands together.

He then approached your chained body as he placed his hand on your head. Whispering "You've grown to be an obedient girl, Y/N. Keep it up."

You sighed to the memory. You didn't want Killua to experience what you've gone through just because he was conversing with a stranger, but you couldn't help but believe what Killua was doing was wrong. It was because Illumi had drilled in to your head that he'll kill anyone you talk to outside the family.

That was when you were 10 and Illumi was 15. It was 9 years ago but it was clear as day. In this point of your life you didn't care what he'd do to people you converse and socialize with, not that you do outside of work. Maybe his trainings had paid off, he got what he wanted now, you couldn't see the importance of socializing anymore.

You were an assassin after all. You have no use for it.
