Chapter 17
Saturday September 2nd
Mallory's POV"His wife?!" Eli shrieked, the sip of coffee that he had taken has now been spit all over the kitchen from the shock of my words. He looked down at the wasted coffee in sadness, but recovered quickly when his eyes met mine again. "His wife?!"
It was the next morning, and I was due to meet Isabella for brunch at 10 am, so I did have to leave Veronica's apartment shortly. However, I absolutely had to come over here before meeting with Isabella so that I could tell my best friends about what I learned last night. I wanted to rush over here right after my shift, but Veronica texted me back saying they were out on a date, and I didn't want to ruin it so I was forced to wait until today.
Instead, I tossed and turned over the information for the entirety of my night until Veronica texted this morning letting me know they were awake and it was free to come over. I was really thankful, because I desperately needed to know their opinion on this.
"Yes!" I screeched back, tugging the ends of my hair in frustration. "Harry is married!"
I turned my head to Veronica, who was sitting there with the most shocked expression on her face. Her curly hair flowed perfectly down by her shoulders, her manicured fingers clasped lightly around her coffee mug, and the oversized t shirt that I assumed was Elijah's went down to her knees.
"When I get my hands on that British curly headed old prick, I swear-" Veronica grit her teeth, shaking her head with disgust at the news.
"Mallory, are you serious?" Eli's eyes were still wide. For someone who was half asleep when I walked in here a few minutes ago, he surely was awake now. Then again, this is jolting news.
"Yes!" I hit the counter in distress. "He said it was his wife, I looked down, and boom! There was a wedding ring!"
"How could you miss a wedding ring for the last two weeks?!" Eli asked loudly.
"I swear he wasn't wearing it! He definitely didn't have it at the bar, and it's been missing ever since. Until yesterday apparently!" I defended. I know for a fact that Harry was not wearing one the night we met, despite being drunk, I knew that. I also knew that for all the days that I've seen him at the hospital, it was not there.
The different thing I couldn't pinpoint about him yesterday morning had to be the wedding ring.
"V, you're like scarily silent" Eli glanced at his girlfriend.
"I am thinking of all the different ways I could severely hurt that man" Veronica threatened. She is probably the most protective person in my life, and honestly I wouldn't doubt her showing up at the hospital and giving Harry a taste of his own medicine. Would I like it for my own personal sake? Yes. Would it have consequences on my job? Probably.
"Do you think the wife knows?" Eli questioned, finally cleaning up the mess he made.
"Of course she doesn't! The asshat cheated on his literal wife" Veronica answered. "Purposely removed the one obvious hint that he's married and hooked up with some stranger in a bar. He's a liar, and a cheater, and I hate him"
"Oh my god I'm a homewrecker" I threw my head back in agony and covered my face in my hands. Above anything else, this is so humiliating.
I had sex with a married man. Granted, there was no way for me to know he had a wife at home, but still. I hooked up with someone in an established marriage where the wife shows up to his workplace to hand deliver him baked goods and kiss him on his lips.
And he's known the entire time.
Ever since I started at the hospital and we recognized one another, he knew he was hiding something huge from me. Not that we have any sort of romantic relationship with one another, but he was the only one aware that he was married. God, he probably loved hiding that from me. Just the way he told me about her last night was enough to prove it. The stupid smirk he had on his face, the chuckle before he let the words out. He knew he was about to evoke a whole new wave of emotions onto me, and he enjoyed it.
