Welcome Back!
Chapter 58
Sunday November 26th
Mallory's POV"So how is it going with Dr. Dirty Secret?" Mason nudged my side with his elbow, asking the question with enthusiasm laced in his tone. Right away my head snapped to give him a look, seeing the intrigued expression on his face as well as his pride at the little nickname he gave Harry.
I pressed the button to bring the elevator down to our floor, grateful that he waited to ask that question until we passed by the group of doctors a few feet away. I knew that Mason has kept our secret under wraps the entire time I've known him, but sometimes he still loves to give me a run for my money to keep me on my toes.
"How's it going with Camila?" I asked in return, answering his question with one of my own. Mason is always pestering me about my 'relationship' with Harry, but I never get a chance to do it back to him. A main reason is because I still can't respect Camila, not when she walks around this hospital making me miserable, so I don't want to listen about her. However, it gave me the perfect opportunity to stall off his interrogation a little bit longer.
"I asked you first" Mason remarked, holding his hands behind his back and giving me a pointed look. I avoided his gaze, instead staring at the number counting down as the elevator approached us. When it finally opened up in front of us, Mason motioned for me to head in the empty box. "Ladies first"
"How kind" I playfully rolled my eyes and walked inside, pressing the button for the third floor. For once, I urged somebody else to join the ride with us, because I knew if it was just Mason and I, that he was going to be inclined to continue his conversation. At least if somebody else was here, I had a few extra seconds.
But alas, the doors began to close on the two of us.
The second there was no longer a gap, both he and I turned our heads to look at one another. He had an expecting smirk on his face, clearly having an idea of what I just wanted to happen, as he waited for me to divulge any information I was willing to give.
"Why do you even want to know?" I questioned him with an empty laugh, now staring at the panel of buttons to avoid his sight.
"We're friends. Friends tell each other things" Mason answered as if it was a stupid question, using his hands to get his point again, spinning them in circles as an urge to get me to talk.
"So?" I quirked an eyebrow, trying to see what else he would say.
"And they look out for one another?" Mason stated in a question sense, but in a way that he was questioning why I wouldn't think of it.
"Who would've thought? Mason looking out for me" I pointed out, finding it all ironic honestly. My first few months here, if somebody would have told me Mason is someone I feel somewhat comfortable speaking to about all of this, I would have never believed it. When you think about what he put me through in order to keep the secret in the first place, it seems like such a far reach, but now here we are.
"Haha" He remarked sarcastically.
"You don't need to look out for me" I shook my head at him, feeling like this elevator ride was taking forever.
"Well he is married" Mason reminded, as if it was some minor detail that I could genuinely forget. Although, it is one I try to forget. Even if it's wrong.
"Really? I had no idea" I commented as the doors open, and I rushed out of them. Mason, of course, followed right behind me considering we were going to the same place at the moment. I needed to head down to the lab to do something for Dr. Brooks, and he figured he would come with me. Now I realize, it was likely just to try and have this conversation with me.
