Chapter 64
Thursday November 30th
Harry's POVBlood.
Blood was everywhere.
As I surveyed the scene, crimson red was the main thing that I could see.
It was pooling on the exquisite marble floors.
It was staining the once yellow dress the unknown stranger was wearing.
It was covering the hands of her partner who was mercilessly begging for somebody to help them.
"Somebody please!" A broken sob filled my ears as I approached the couple from the other end of the restaurant. We were at two completely different ends of the place, but we were the only ones running over. Although I told Mallory to stay where she was seated, I should've known to expect her right on my heels, and now that I saw what I did I knew the help wouldn't go to waste.
"We're doctors, sir" I told him in a rush, pulling my gray sweater up and over my head, leaving me in my plain white t-shirt that I knew was going to be a mess by the end of this. My shirt would join the others in being covered with the strangers blood, but that wasn't at all important. I threw it to the side at the same time that Mallory yanked her jacket off, discarding it next to mine. We were ready to get our hands dirty, literally.
"You have to help her please!" The man begged, gripping my arms with his bloody fingers, imprinting a mark on the once clean fabric. He was in an obvious state of distress, grabbing onto me for support and gratefulness that we had run over to help him.
Other sets of eyes lingered on what was going on, waitstaff and customers both staring at an attempt to see what was going on. The room felt like it was at a standstill as everyone was frozen in their spots. Dinner plates were slowly being abandoned as utensils were put down, and orders were no longer being taken as the room was in a state of shock.
"We're going to help her" I assured the man, holding him steady so he didn't collapse on me. I looked down at his hands and the way the blood was seeping into his skin, making a mark around the wedding ring he adorned on his left hand. The grasp he had on me was intense, his fingers digging into my skin in an attempt to keep himself up. The look he was giving me reeked of immense fear and panic, his mouth agape in worry as his eyes looked back and forth between myself and his wife. His body began to uncontrollably shake within my hands, and I knew that I needed Mallory to help calm him down while I began to help his wife. "Mallory"
"Sir, sir, we can help you okay, just come with me" Mallory jumped right in, her sweet voice known to be soothing even in times of emergent conditions. She gently, but efficiently, took ahold of the mans wrist so that I could be free from his restraint. It was more important that I began to take care of the woman, rather than comforting family members right now.
The man looked over at Mallory and calmed down ever so slightly, nodding his head and letting her lead him over to the nearest empty table. Good, he needed to sit down and slow his heartrate, otherwise he risked passing out in an already trying time. She brought him over to the booth so slowly, going at the only speed he was able to handle right now, but she was going to help him. Mallory just has such a calming presence about her, and that was something that would aid her in surgery.
"Somebody call 911!" I barked an order to the crowd. I didn't know if somebody had already done so or not. It seemed like the most obvious thing to do, but the bystander effect is real, and sometimes nothing gets done unless one person takes command and directs everyone else around.
Out of the corner of my eye, I witnessed two people take out their phones to dial the recognized number, which was a sigh of relief. In front of me, Mallory had pulled a chair from another table to sit in front of the husband, trying to coach him through deep breaths and exercises to relax. Once he was able to control himself, Mallory would come help me.
