Chapter 33
Saturday October 14th
Mallory's POV"I don't get what you see in it"
My peaceful serenity was interrupted by the obnoxiousness of Harry coming to sit beside me. I ended up working a little later last night, so I just decided to crash at the hospital once again instead of having Veronica pick me up. Possibly a risky move considering what happened the first time I made that decision, but then again, we hooked up while on shift just a few days ago too. It didn't matter much. At least I wouldn't have to worry about it for too much longer. My car would be fixed in no time, and I can get back to my own space.
"Like I told you before" I sent a glare his direction, angry with him for ruining what is supposed to be the most calming part of my day. Any situation that involved Harry was the opposite of bliss, and he was putting quite a damper on my morning ritual just by being around me. "I like knowing there's always another day, another chance"
"This hospital has fatalities every day, so your logic is flawed" He pointed out, and I knew I could rely on him to do so. Yes, I know my positive outlook on the sunrise was clearly skewed, however it brought me a sense of happiness. If telling myself something as simple as the sun will always rise works to get through the day, then that it what I'm going to do. Regardless of what Harry of all people has to say about it.
"Do you have to ruin everything?" I rolled my eyes at him. It was too early to be dealing with his nonsense, but unfortunately I was a victim to it.
"I just state the truth" He shrugged carelessly.
"Oh, you sure do" I remarked, shaking my head at him. It was 100% in his personality to claim such a thing, meanwhile he's been lying to his wife for two months now.
"You kissed me back" He snapped his head to look at me. "You can't put all of the blame on me to make yourself feel better, when you kissed me back"
I knew that he was right, even though it killed me to admit it inside. I know that he's married. I know he has a spouse, and a marriage at home. I know that he has this other life. And I knew all of this, and I still chose to have sex with him again. Not once, but twice.
I couldn't verbally respond, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of being right. He realizes that enough on his own throughout the day, I don't need to add to his ego increasing. Instead, my eyes shot down to the silver wedding band that was at home on his ring finger. I exhaled heavily, the daunting reminder of how it felt against my skin just a few days ago.
What we had done was wrong on so many levels, I couldn't even begin to find the words to describe it.
I haven't even told Veronica yet that it happened once again. Not that I need to share every detail of my intimate life with my friends, but that's just who we are. We tell each other everything, we always have, and we always will. The fact that I haven't told her that I got back in bed, well a supply closet, with Harry is enough indication of how wrong we were.
But if it was so bad, then why did it feel so good?
"Cat got your tongue?" He taunted me, raising his eyebrows at my silence. I got so lost inside my own head for a moment there, I forgot that he had said anything, or that he was even still next to me to begin with.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him, wanting to know why he was even sitting next to me right now. Our shift was about to start, and it's not like Harry and I even like one another on any level, that he should feel the need to come join me right now.
"I was getting Stevie her breakfast" He answered, the cafeteria doors were just a few feet away.
"You shouldn't keep her waiting then" I commented, more so just wanting him to get away from me. If he leaves now, I can still catch the last few moments of the sun rising without him annoying me.
