Chapter 61
Wednesday November 29th
Harry's POV

"I'll be right back with your check" The waitress smiled at the two of us, clearing away our now empty plates. We enjoyed meals that consisted of fluffy waffles, sunny side up eggs, and breakfast potatoes that were all cooked to perfection and very delicious. It was pretty good food for a hole in the wall diner in the middle of Manhattan, but it was what I had time for this morning.

I nodded my head in acknowledgement and pulled my wallet out of my coat pocket as the waitress walked away from clearing our table. I took one of my credit cards and held it in between my fingers, handing it over to the young waitress without glancing at the tab when she came back over.

"See how nice this was? Breakfast, the two of us?" Bonnie slid her hand across the table, moving to take my hand and link it with hers. She interlocked our fingers so her ring was flashing in front of my face, her newly manicured fingers polished with pink.

"Of course" I agreed with her. It was bright and early before my shift, earlier than Bonnie typically wakes up, but she was insistent that the two of us spend some time alone together. She's been telling me that it's been so long since the two of us have been on a date with one another, and although she isn't wrong, it just was complicated right now. My schedule at the hospital was busier than ever before, especially with the high profile cases I was taking on the holidays around the corner. I always worked long hours, I know as it's been a complaint Bonnie has had since we've gotten married, but it felt more reoccurring now.

When I told her yesterday that I would have time this morning to go out to breakfast, I figured she would change her mind since she likes to sleep in when she can. Although, I was wrong, because she agreed with no issues and met me here right at 6am on the dot. Stevie was still sleeping peacefully in her bed when I had left, drooping my blanket over her so she could have a piece of me when she woke up if I hadn't made it back yet. I told her last night that mommy and daddy were going out very early so she was aware in case the room was empty when she woke up, but she wasn't even worried about that. Instead, she questioned me how she was going to watch the sunrise if I wasn't there with her.

She wasn't very happy when I told her we might have to miss it.

To make up for it, I let her win three games of princess memory as well as have a special snack before bedtime to bring her spirits up again. I didn't want her to go to bed angry with me, especially over the sunrise, but clearly it was meaning something to her these days. I was just glad that she didn't ask me if Mallory could take her solo to watch it, because I wasn't sure how I would feel about that.

"Is there anyway you can cut your hours at the hospital? It would be a good thing if you can spend time at home more often, and then that means Stevie can get some time out of that place" Bonnie proposed while stroking her thumb on the top of my hand, a gesture that should feel soothing or relaxing coming from my wife, but to me it only felt foreign.

Not to mention, her idea had me furrowing my eyebrows at her, surprised that it came out of nowhere. Bonnie has mentioned more than a few times in the past that I should spend more time at home, that's not shocking to me, but she's never flat out asked me to remove some of my hours. Usually she passive aggressively tells me that my work schedule is causing this strain on our marriage and it'd be best if we fixed that, but then we move on to something else.

"I can't cut my hours" I shook my head. It just wouldn't be possible, again especially with the busiest time of the year approaching, and I didn't want to. Yes, my job is exhausting but I also love it. I think I would lose myself if I wasn't spending my time in surgery, because it's one of my favorite things in the world. "And Stevie has to stay there for her treatment Bonnie"
