Part two!!!
Chapter 60
Monday November 27th
Harry's POV"Is my daughter okay?!"
"When can we see them?"
"They say they don't know if my daughter made it off the bus, who can tell me?!"
The moment I entered the courtyard, I was swarmed with questions and pleas from worried parents. The area was packed solid, a complete opposite of the times Stevie, Mal, and I occupy it to watch the sunrise in the mornings. Our quiet spot was now filled with adults yelling at me for answers and loud chatter amongst everyone. It was evidently more chaotic and hectic than normal, and I had to capture everyone's attention so I can answer their questions at large.
As much as I wanted to be able to tell each individual parent I knew exactly where their child was, we weren't at that stage yet. I just wanted to run over here and give a quick update that all busses and ambulances have arrived, and we will give out more information as fast as we can get it. At my discretion, Mallory was off triage and now working on this exact assignment.
The two missing kids was something I hope she can solve as soon as possible. I was just wishing they got mixed in with the other classes and we can put Hanna's largest fear to rest. She came off of the bus in so much distress that I would have sworn she was massively injured, but physically she's perfectly fine. Her scene in front of everybody was just a result of deep care for her students, and I couldn't fault her for being so worried.
I had faith that Mallory would find out where Alyssa and Tate are as quickly as she can, if there's an answer to be found. She was organized, and cared about the kids a lot, so she wouldn't think this job is 'boring' or 'uninteresting' like some of the other interns would. She'd do her best work crossing off names as much as she would in saving a life, I was just waiting on an answer from her. It'd be probably an hour until I hear anything as the emergency room triage was flooded with young students, and getting ahold of FD might take a while due to their situation.
"Can I have everyone's attention?" I asked the crowd, trying to silence everyone with my hands by gesturing them down to mimic what I wanted their volume to do. Parents were crowding around me like reporters waiting on a breaking story, waiting to hang onto my every word.
"When can we see our kids?!"
"I need everyone to quiet down!" I stated, raising my voice amongst everyone else's.
It was the only way to get them all to stop bombarding me with questions, ones that I'm trying to answer as soon as they give me the floor to do so. At the sound of my voice booming through the courtyard, the crowd simmered down, ready to listen.
"At this time, I unfortunately do not have individual updates on each of your children. All the busses and ambulances have arrived, and my team is working through assessing each student and teacher for future discharge. Students who are clear to leave will be walked down here as soon as possible, and we are working on identifying which persons are in surgery so that we can alert the proper loved ones. I understand you are all worried, we are doing everything we can to keep your children safe" I addressed all of them, only able to give them what limited information I had.
We had several patients in surgery, which Mallory is currently working on identifying, and we'd be able to let those guardians know when we do. I know the waiting is daunting, and a major stress right now for these families, but we were working as fast and efficiently as we can. We didn't want to cut any corners, and there was only so much that we knew at this moment. Days like this are always difficult to navigate because there was obviously a lot more going on than just scheduled surgeries where we knew what was waiting for us.
