Chapter 59
Monday November 27th
Mallory's POV

"Mallory!"

A familiar little voice called out my name, and with a quick turn of my head, my face lit up at the sight of Stevie dragging her dad behind her. She was wearing a white dress with images of the sun printed all over it, copying the scrub cap that Harry wears in each and every surgery. Her outfit was clearly ready to watch the sunrise this morning, and it always made me giggle how she's forced Harry into this.

Since the day I've met Harry, he's always poked fun at my little obsession with the sunrise. Claiming it was dumb or unnecessary was just something he's said, but I still believe he just doesn't fully understand it. Plus, a large part of Harry's personality is playful banter so now he just teases just to mess with me. However, as silly as he may think it is, he still trudges out here with his daughter constantly just to make her happy.

"Hi Stevie!" I gasped, slowly squatting down and extending my arms out, ready for her to crash into them. I was always diligent about my actions with Stevie, never wanting to cross any boundaries that Harry has silently put in place, but he's never denied a hug since I've met her. I figured it was okay, but I still glanced at him to see if his expression changed to disapproval, but all I could see was a growing smile on his face.

Harry let go of her hand when they got close enough to let Stevie embrace me. I wrapped my arms around her, giving her a big squeeze and appreciating every second. Her little arms wrapped around my back as she rested her head on my shoulder, holding tightly onto me.

For longer than usual, Stevie gripped onto me, refusing to let go. I didn't mind it at all, just holding her as long as she wanted to hold onto me. It was early and she was probably still a bit tired, so that's likely why she was having a hard time breaking away this morning. I ran my hand gently up and down her back, glancing up at Harry to see if he wanted to put a stop to it or not.

He still held the smile on his face, a glint in his eyes as he watched us. The sun was preparing to rise, and it hit his gaze at just the right time to make them shine. He was back in his dark navy scrubs, a day on pediatrics on his schedule. I'm sure Harry loved working in the NICU just as much, but pediatrics is definitely his home.

I glanced at the sun, knowing my favorite part of the day was about to start. I hate to break up the hug between Stevie and I, but we both would be upset if we missed the beautiful view. Softly, I told her. "Stevie, the sunrise is starting"

"Oh, I want to sit with you" Stevie answered, dropping her arms from my neck and staring expectantly at me.

"Okay" I nodded, just opting to take a seat on the concrete for today. I shifted so I was firmly planted on the ground, crossing my legs and getting hit with a stinging reminder of the night Harry and I had yesterday. I bit the inside of my cheek to distract from the pain, knowing that I was going to have to treat it before my shift, because I wasn't going to be able to deal with it the entire day. I also didn't want it to get infected or anything, that would surely not be good.

Harry shrugged his shoulders and got down on the floor next to me, doing anything and everything for his little girl. He put his palms on the floor and leaned back on his arms, his veins poking out among the abundance of tattoos he has. "Hey sunrise"

"Hey" I giggled.

"Daddy! That's Mallory" Stevie laughed, covering her mouth with her hands as she did. The innocence on her face was so pure, just giggling away as her dad called me the 'wrong' name. Harry's expression flashed panic as he just called me the endearing nickname in front of her, and she heard, but she's only 4 and it should be okay.
