Fighting your shadowsThe sun had collapsed beneath the sky, the moon now being its replacement as it shone just as bright. It was such a wonder. How the magic of it worked. It was just beautiful.
The moon itself was like the natural nightlight anyone could want.Oh the wish to lay under it and have it comfort and lull you to rest.
Your eyes closing from the tranquil feeling. Knowing you're safe under the moon.
And the stars.
Oh the stars were his favourite. On every damned night of his life he would spend it here. If he could he would stay here forever. He dreamed constantly of a house where the ceiling was glass. He would be able to look up on his bed and see the stars staring back at him.
They were so beautiful. Everything he could ever wish to be. A star. Beautiful things.
He wanted to one day be worshiped that way.
A star.
Or perhaps a flower?
He wanted someone to look at him and worship him just as much as he did with the sky.
He shrugged off the fluffy blanket, watching it fall off his lap as he turned over to the boy on his side.
"Niki? Tell me more stories about the stars." Little Hyunjin whispered, smiling with his usual toothy grin as his younger brother blinked in excitement.
He pushed himself up straighter, and began explaining each different star and their meanings.
Hyunjin could just fall asleep listening to the wondrous history of it all. It was almost like a lullaby that comforted him always.
He rested his head on his brother's shoulder, letting his eyes take in the beautiful display of white lights and a dark background.
Like a painting. Oh how he would love to paint the serine scene. He could paint thousands by memory.
Sometimes he found himself wondering how on earth he got so lucky to see this every night. He wasn't lucky in a lot of things, but this was one thing in his life that could bring a genuine smile.
"They're so pretty." He murmured, tracing the star outlines with the tip of his finger.
"You're my favourite star Jinnie." Niki hummed.
But something in his stomach turned. That relaxing feeling that had overcome him had him tensing up in his spot.
He blinked a few times, trying to get out of whatever feeling he was set in but something in his gut had him feeling on edge.
On the last blink, he opened his eyes and looked down.
Oh. He was his present age. The blink of an eye and they were no longer naive kids anymore. He rubbed his eyes and leant his head off of Niki's shoulder.
He remembered the comfort Niki's presence would bring. When he laid his head on his lap with the younger brushing his hair with his fingers, massaging his scalp and talking for hours.
