Chapter 73

Caius eventually pulled Lia away from Henry and his ability to make her delicious snacks, though she made it clear they would be talking again later. Aro may not see much use for his gift but she sure as hell did.

Caius introduced her to the Russian coven and the Japanese coven. Both were rather slim in numbers but she was beginning to realize that was more common than not.

The Russian coven consisted of three vampires while the Japanese coven had four.

As she was talking to a delightful woman named Emiko she felt Caius stiffen, she glanced at her mate only to see his eyes narrowed on someone across the room.

She politely excused them before dragging her mate away from others and quietly asking "Why are you glaring?" in her quietest voice, though Lia knew full well that all the vampires in the room could hear her.

Caius still had a scowl on his face but it turned to more of a grimace when he met her eyes "It is a lack of foresight that has surprised me. When we required all covens to attend I forgot that would include my ex wife" he said quietly, his voice filled with remorse.

She raised an eyebrow and turned to look at the woman Caius had been glaring at, all of a sudden she felt a wave of both jealousy and inadequacy, she was beautiful.

"Oh" was all she said as she quickly averted her eyes from Caius's ex-wife.

Caius gently grabbed her chin until she made eye contact with him "She means nothing Gioia Mia. I love only you. What she and I had was not love" he said, his eyes making it clear he was telling the truth.

She gave a nod but didn't respond, knowing people were most definitely listening in on their conversation, including most likely his ex-wife.

Aro interrupted anything she would have said anyway as he walked up to their side, Marcus behind him "It would seem Athenadora and Supliacia have joined the Chinese coven" he said, his eyes slightly cold while they looked towards his ex wifes direction.

Aro's eyes softened when he looked at her and he offered his hand, making it clear she didn't have to allow him to touch her if she would like to keep her thoughts private for now. Lia sighed softly and put her hand in Aro's, allowing him to read her thoughts to reassure them both.

"Not surprising given the coven prides themselves on only allowing ancient Vampires into their coven. I believe their youngest member is just shy of twelve hundred years. Your previous wives are both older than any member of the coven, they would be welcomed with open arms" Marcus said softly, probably more for her benefit than theirs.

Lia grimaced for a moment before schooling her expression, her back straightening as she dubbed what she liked to call her Queen persona.

"Well then, we best welcome such an old coven properly" she said as she grabbed Caius's and Aro's arms. She wasn't above marking her territory.

As they walked up and greeted the coven leader she refused to even glance in the direction of her mate's exes. The coven leader was respectful if not terse, probably not liking her much if they had the former Queens whispering in their ears for the past year.

When she heard a throat clear behind her she turned, not reacting when she was met with the red eyed stare of the beautiful Blonde Ex wife of her mate.

Her cold red eyes looked Lia up and down and by the look on her face Lia could confer that she wasn't impressed. Before the blonde one who she was assuming was Athenadora could speak a dark-haired woman stepped forward with a forced smile on her face.

"Hello Caius, I am glad to see you doing well, and this must be your mate. It is nice to meet you, I am Suplicia and this is Athenadora" she said, not bowing her head in respect but also not being outwardly rude either.

Caius had an affirming hand on her waist and she felt it tighten slightly in reassurance "I am well Supliacia, and this is -" Caius was cut off as she put a hand on his chest "My name is Amelia, it is nice to finally meet you" she said, putting on a charming front.

She refused to feel inferior to these women just because they were fucking gorgeous.

Lia watched as both women looked almost astonished at the fact she interrupted Caius, which gave Lia a lot of insight into their relationships with her mates. They looked as if they were waiting for her to be reprimanded and were shocked that one never came.

Suplicia seemed to realize she had let the silence go too long if the warning glare Caius sent her said anything.

"It is nice to meet you Amelia, I hope you take no offense if we do not use your title since it was us that held it for so long" Athenadora said before Suplicia could speak.

Suplicia gave Athenadora a look of warning but it was Aro who spoke then, coming up from behind his mate "She may take no offense but we do" he said, warning in his voice as he looked at Athenadora coldly.

Caius may at one point have enjoyed her bite but he never did and he wouldn't allow her to think she still held any authority or sway to do as she pleases.

Athenadora blanched slightly but it was Suplicia that spoke "Of course, we will do well to remember, now please excuse us" she said, grabbing Athenadora's wrist and practically dragging her away.

Lia looked at Aro amused "I could have handled that you know" she said lowly, she had been fully intending on correcting the misconception that Athenadora seemed to hold.

Ara shook his head and grabbed her hand, bringing her knuckles up to his lips "I know Anima Mia, but you should not have to. They are our mistakes, you should not be burdened with them" he said simply.

Caius snorted but didn't say anything making Lia roll her eyes fondly "Fine, let's go announce the new laws while it's still early" she said as she shook her head with a fond expression on her face.
