Chapter Six - Revealed

Chloe's POV

Sat next to Markus, I stared at the door.

"What happened?" I asked.

From my peripheral vision, I saw him shrug.

"No idea." He replied. "I told him to wait outside and when I got out the shop, he was gone. He should be back soon, though."

"Should be, or will be?" I countered.

"Will be. He will be back soon." He corrected himself, dropping his gaze to the floor.

Markus came back an hour ago, but he had stayed out looking for Caleb before he came back, so Caleb had been gone for just over two and a half hours.

The door opened and Markus and I almost ran to it.

Caleb walked in and closed the door behind him.

"Where were you?" I asked. "You've been gone for hours!"

"Hours?" He repeated, his eyebrows furrowed.

"What happened?" Markus asked.

Caleb's gaze focused on Markus for a while, as if communicating with him. His gaze then dropped to the floor.

"Daniel knows." He said quietly. "He knows where I am."

"How?!" Markus demanded.

"He saw me outside the shop." Caleb replied.

"What did he do? Where'd you go?"

"He...took me to Lucas."

"What are you two on about?" I asked, looking at them both.

"Daniel is Caleb's brother, and Lucas is his father." Markus explained as Caleb ran his hands through his hair and sighed, closing his eyes. "He doesn't like Daniel that much." He said, glancing at Caleb.

"I hate Daniel." Caleb corrected. "And now he's found me."

"What, were you playing hide and seek or something?" I asked.

Markus snickered. "Something like that."

Two Weeks Later...

Caleb's POV

I hadn't seen Daniel or Lucas since that day, but I knew it was only a matter of time until they find me.

They would find me; they would force the past I'd ran away from back on me. And I can't go back.

But I also can't leave - not two weeks into university, I can't.

So, I'm stuck.

Chloe, Markus and I had settled in well over the two weeks we'd been here. Neither of them brought the 'Daniel at the shops' situation up since the day it happened. But it never left my mind.

"Caleb," Chloe's voice interrupted my thoughts.

I glanced up at her. "Yeah?"

"Come on!" She laughed. I stood up.

"Where are we going?" I asked as she pulled me out of the apartment. Markus was behind us.

"We are going to the park." She replied.

"Why?" I whined.

"Because." She responded.

"Because...?" I repeated.

"Just because!"

By now, we had reached the stairs and had started walking down them.

"I'll go if we take a car." I said stubbornly, pulling her to a stop.

She sighed. "Fine - but you're driving." Markus and I both had our driving licenses, but Chloe didn't.

"Why?" I whined again.

She laughed, pulling me down the stairs again.

"Markus, did you agree to this?" I asked, glancing back at him.

He smirked. "Yep."

---

The three of us walked aimlessly, following random paths. Hardly anyone else was in the park, which was surprising. It's usually full at this time.

"Where is everyone?" Markus asked, glancing round.

I shrugged. "How should I know?"

He laughed. "Guess."

"Kids are at school and adults are at work - that's my guess." I replied.

"How creative." Chloe commented, laughing when I pushed her lightly.

"Seriously, though - what are we doing here?" I asked.

"We're enjoying the fresh air." Markus replied.

"I don't know about you, but I'm not enjoying my hair getting destroyed by the wind." I answered.

"Caleb," Another voice called. I stopped and turned around. Chloe and Markus did, too.

"Who is that?" Chloe asked as the figure approached us.

"My brother." I answered, glaring at Daniel.

"Why did you leave?" He asked.

"I wasn't going to stay there." I shot back.

He grabbed my shoulder and pulled me towards him. "I've said sorry a thousand times, Caleb!" He shouted. "What else do you want from me?!"

"I want you to leave me and my roommates alone." I answered quietly.

His gaze lifted. "Markus?" He stated, shock laced into his tone. "What are you doing here?"

"Like I'd tell you. Let him go now." Markus shot back.

"A human?" Daniel asked me, glancing at Chloe before returning his gaze to me.

I nodded and pushed him away from me.

"Does she know what we are?" He asked.

"Be quiet, Daniel," I warned.

"Oh - you weren't going to tell her." He smiled. I rolled my eyes.

"Tell me what?" I heard Chloe ask.

"It doesn't matter." Markus spoke up.

I pushed Daniel backwards when he began to talk.

"I said, be quiet." I stated angrily. "Don't do this."

"Why not? Doesn't she deserve to know?" He shot back. "Tell you what - forgive me and I won't tell her. If you don't forgive me, I'll tell her."

"Don't you dare blackmail me, Daniel." I warned icily.

He looked taken aback. "I can do what I want." He replied after a pause.

"Markus, take Chloe and leave." I called.

"What are you going to do?" Markus replied.

"Something I should have done years ago." I answered.

I heard them walk away.

When it grew silent, I pushed Daniel as hard as I could.

He fell backwards a few meters, landing against a tree.

I was in front of him in an instant.

"Why are you hiding the truth from her?" He demanded.

"Why do you care?" I shot back.

He laughed and pushed me. I fell to the floor. When I got back up again, he'd gone.

I sighed and turned around, about to walk back to the car when I saw them.

Markus and Chloe - and they'd seen everything.
