I scrambled to clean and get everything done before Mark got here. I washed all the dishes, vacuumed, dusted, did laundry, and cooked. I picked up everything off the floor and took out the garbage. I just finished up when I heard the door open.
"Honey I'm home!" Mark yelled sarcastically. He set down his bags in the living room.
I ran out of my room and saw Mark standing there. I ran up and hugged him. I squeezed him and he the same back to me. I laughed as he picked me up mid-hug and spun me around like a child. It was the best feeling ever. I was so happy he was back home!
"Oh aren't you a sight for sore eyes Phi?" He said as he put me down back on my feet. "Feels good to be back here." He looked at me puzzled. "Is that my sweatshirt?"
I laughed. "Maybe..."
He jokingly scowled at me. "Phi...?" He laughed at the look on my face. I was all smiles and was acting like a child.
"Hey, don't you start with me mister." I said sarcastically. "You should have been in this apartment at 8:00 this morning! It was freezing!"
"I wish I was here. I'm sure it was pretty damn cold. It still kind of is now." Mark looked around. "You got the heater on in this place?"
"Sure do." I said. "Since the moment I woke up. And yet, still cold enough in here to have hell start freezing over." Mark laughed once I said that.
"I still want to know why and where you got my sweatshirt from though." Mark sat on the couch and smiled at me.
I sat next to Mark on the couch. "I don't know. It was the first one I saw. It was on the chair in my room. I didn't notice it until this morning though. You want it back?" I couldn't stop smiling at him.
"No. You can wear it." He said. He was all smiles too. "I'll just get a blanket or something from the closet."
I popped up off the couch, ran like a little kid into the hallway, grabbed a big, fluffy blanket from the closet, ran back into the living room, handed it to Mark, and sat back sown next to him. He looked at me and smiled.
"You hungry Mark?" I asked him. "I made you some food like I promised. Still warm if you want some." I gestured at the kitchen where I could see the plate sitting on the counter.
"Sure, thank you Phi." Mark got up and went to the kitchen. I had made eggs with cheese, a hash brown, and toast. Next to it there was a glass of orange juice. "I see you went fancy on me. You got the whole set up here. Stereotype perfect breakfast, orange juice, and you set it all on a carrying tray. Looks good. Thanks a bunch. You make anything for yourself?"
"I ate earlier thanks. I only made your food that way because I'd like you to be in a good mood and smiley today." I had a surprise for him later that night.
He looked at me suspiciously. "What'd you do now? Did you buy me a new computer game for my Let's Plays or something?"
"Can't tell you until later Mark. But it's way better than a game, believe or not."
"I'm gonna find out what you did. And when I do, I'm either going to hate it or hug the hell out of you for it." He said with a smile and a full mouth.
"I forbid you to know. Keep your sorry butt in the kitchen with your food. You can't know anything outside your limits until I give you the say so." I wouldn't want Mark to figure out what I had planned! Not until I showed it to him!
He swallowed and started talking again. "Yes mom. Cheezuz. I didn't know you were super protective about it! Now I'm totes mcscrotes over curious as to what is going on in that head of yours." He finished eating and washed out his plate and put it away. I heard it. I was in my room looking for something.
It grew silent for a second and I hear Mark's footsteps throughout the apartment. Then they stopped and I thought little of it.
"You get lost Mark?" I said loud enough for him to hear me.
He didn't respond though. I suddenly heard loud footsteps. Then felt someone pick me up bridal style and I realized it was Mark. I squeaked when he picked me up. Not trying to be loud. Then I fell into a fit of laughter as Mark threw me across my room and onto my bed. He quickly followed and tackled me when I tried to get back up. I was being held down on my bed and not allowed to get up. I noticed Mark took off his glasses and had in his contacts.
After the laughing fit was done, we just laid there. Mark was still holding my waist from when he was denying me getting up. He held me close to him. I was so happy to be there with him. I felt secure, safe, like nothing could go wrong. He kissed my cheek and I turned towards him. He looked at me and we made eye contact. I felt that warm, fuzzy feeling come back to me. His eye darted back an forth from my eyes, to my lips and back again.
Before I knew it he had pulled me much closer and he kissed me. Sparks flew instantly. It was perfect. I was the happiest person in the world in those few seconds we shared. He pulled away and looked at me. A small grin on his face. I guess the saying 'actions speak louder than words' was fitting in that situation. Mark's phone rang and that's when he got up. He went into the living room and answered the call. I followed him into the living room and sat down on the couch.
"Hello?" He said.
I heard a voice from his phone. It was too quiet for me to hear. And I didn't want to intrude. Mark called the guy Wade. It was one of his friends I'd seen in the Drunk Minecraft series that Mark had on his YouTube channel. They talked for a minute. Then they said bye and hung up. Mark walked over to the couch and sat close next to me. He put his arm around me and I laid my head on his shoulder.
"What was that about?" I asked him.
"Which part?"
"Whatever one you can find words for. Was that one of your friends or someone on the phone?"
He answered. Sounded relieved I didn't ask him to explain why he kissed me. "Yeah, actually. My buddy Wade called and wanted to know if I had any plans tonight. I told him I did. Then he got pissy and hung up. But I guess if he asked me what was up that he wanted to go out. I invited him to come over later though. I hate it when my friends get upset over anything. So I felt bad. He'll be over in about a half an hour. His girlfriend is gonna come over too if that's not too much? Haven't seen them in a few months."
"Oh. It's okay. Sounds like a good idea too." I asked another question. "And the other thing. Got any reasoning toward that? Why'd you do it?"
He looked at me. "Simple. I had to do it. At least once." Then he grew silent.
I held onto his shirt like the first night I met him. We sat there for a while and there was a knock on the door. He got up and answered it.
"Good god Mark, what did you move into a different building? I thought you lived next door to here." The voice was male and I assumed it was Wade.
"Don't be stupid, you douche. I do live next door. This is the new-ish tenant's apartment. She moved in about a month and a half ago from New York." I heard Mark talk for a second then I heard Wade's girlfriend.
"And where is this new-ish tenant you speak of Mark?" I heard the door close and I headed into the walkway to say hi.
"I'm right here." I said with a smile. "Hi, my name is Sophia." I saw Wade look at me wide eyed. "What?" I asked. "See something you like?" Wade's face grew red with embarrassment. "I'm kidding with you. Come on in." I said, and gestured them inside.
"Hi, my name is Molly. I'm Wade's girlfriend." Molly had a slight high pitched tone and it was cute.
Wade looked up at me. "Hi. I'm Wade. Welcome to Ohio. Better late than never right?"
"Thanks." I said
He looked at Mark like he was expecting him to say something. Mark noticed and they went into the kitchen. Molly and I went into the living room.
Mark's POV.
Wade pulled me into the kitchen with a weird look on his face. Like I did something wrong.
"Why the look?" I asked.
"How the hell Mark? That kind of girl does not pop up by accident. She's way too pretty for that to happen!" Wade was a bit taller than me so he looked slightly down to me as he talked.
"What do you mean 'that doesn't happen by accident?' She moved in, I said hi, and now we're good friends. I don't know what you're thinking you douche. But I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that what ever you think about this is wrong." I was defensive and Wade could tell.
"Shut it Mark. I know you're more than just good friends. What'd you get yourself into now? You've totally kissed her. I can tell because you're face it beat red. You can't tell me I'm wrong dude. You're defensive when you hide something you don't want me to know." He was being smart about it and connected the dots real fast.
"Stuff happens Wade. It was a one time thing, I'm sure. She's way out of my league anyways." I felt a cloud start to form over me. I started getting sad. But Wade saw and quickly snapped me out of it.
"I just don't understand how you can get a girl that pretty. I'm jealous. I mean, I love Molly. But you got someone who is much too beautiful to just pop up outta nowhere. Does she know Markiplier?"
"Yeah," I told him. "I told her the day after we met. Turns out she's a computer and gaming nerd too."
"Okay." Wade said. "Now you're just bragging. Don't you try to one-up me Fischbach. That game you'll lose. She doesn't seem like the type to be a gamer. I. Don't. Get. This."
"Look. Not everything about her is perfect. She's got a life she's trying to get rid of and it's not working so well. It's a bat crap crazy ex boyfriend from New York. He scares the living hell out of her. Some dip shit named Luke. He broke in here the night after she moved in. Into her bedroom. He tried to hurt her. A real bad way too. I haven't seen the son of a bitch since. But know he's not gone." Wade looked at me puzzled.
"What does he look like?" He asked me. Like he was piecing something together.
"Well," I said. "I didn't get a good look at him. But he's like 5'10, a bulky guy. Muscular. And has brown hair." Wade made a face. I didn't know what it was for, but I didn't like it.
"I saw someone like that yesterday. I came by to see if you were back yet but your car wasn't there. But seriously. I swear I saw him. He was walking around examining the window in the back of this apartment. He was looking up at it. Real creepy. I didn't think much of it until now." Wade stopped talking. That was the end of the conversation I guess.
