4 weeks later.

As I sat at the table with Iain, I sighed in frustration, fear was growing inside me. I didn't think I was even capable of being this afraid.

Iain grabbed my hand gently and stroked it soothingly.

"Come on, you can do it. Just relax alright. This guest list is a walk in the park.",

I turned my head sharply to him and glared a icy glare. Did he just say walk in the park?! I have to invite my best friend Angela, who I haven't spoken to in forever! I have to invite my parents! My parents.. Siblings, other friends, cousins, then after we're done sorting out my list, we have to tackle Iain's!

"Don't you dare say that. Do you know my family oh right you don't, BECAUSE YOU NEVER MET THEM. No one even knew about this. Angela doesn't know about this. Oh my gracious. Your sister. Iain. Oh my gra-",

"Hey hey hey, look calm down. Deep breaths Aaliyah, because you're not breathing. The wedding is months from now okay, people get engaged unexpectedly all the time. Let's just put this aside, throw a dinner, and tell everyone okay?",

I inhaled then exhaled deeply, but still not feeling any better.

"You make it sound so easy. Do you have any idea what my parents are like?",
Iain pushed back his hair and exhaled loudly.

"Hopefully not as dramatic as you.",
I gasped noisily, ready to shoot back the shots he just fired.

Before I could open my mouth he exclaimed "I'm kidding! See, so dramatic geez.",

I scrunched up my face into a scowl, completely unamused and on the verge of a heart attack. I couldn't stall forever, I had to make the calls eventually and hopefully when I do they decide not to take a chunk out of my neck.
-------------------------------------------------_-
I placed the poppy flowers on the TV stand in the living room, it added a pleasant earthly smell that I liked.

Ding dong

Smoothing out my dress, I walked briskly to open the front door, passing by Iain and Lili playing tag, I whisper yelled for them to cease.
Reaching out for the door handle I took a deep breathe, exhaling I opened the door.

"Aaliyah Brianna Anjay Pinkston.",

Damn. Second middle name too? She's angry. She's so angry.

"Young lady what in the world are you thinking?! Getting engaged without calling your mother! I should slap you so hard your brain actual gains some sense.",

I stood frozen, my mother is a very intimidating woman, she could make Bigfoot run away.
"Are you just gonna stand there or let me in you fool!",
I quickly moved aside and welcoming in my mother, closing the door behind her I prepared for introductions.
"So where's this fiancé of yours?", my mother asked, looking upon me with accusing eyes.
Must hearing his title, Iain walked in the foyer with Lili trailing close.
"You must be Ms. Pinkston, it's such a pleasure to finally meet you.",
Kissing my mom's hand, Iain apparently also kissing her ass. (XD)

"Iain! What a nice name for a gentlemen.",

My eyes almost popped out of my head. No yelling? No snide remarks? Um who is this woman and where did she put my mother?! Did Iain just woo my mom?! Unbelievable. Unfuckingbelievable.
In the background I heard someone clearing their throat.
"Oh! Mom, this is Lili, Iain's daughter and your soon to be grandchild.",

There it is. The moment I've been waiting for. The doubtfulness.

"Grandchild? Iain you already had a child?", My mom looked concerned, she always told me never to marry a man with children, because when you have some with him, problems occur.
"Yes I do.",
Lili came from Iain and went to hug my mother, surprisingly she accepted.
"Isn't that just wonderful.",
Though her voice was like sugar, my mother's eyes showed something different.

Ding dong

"I'll get that one.", Iain went to get the front door leaving me, mother, and Lili.
"So how old are you Lili?",

"Eight. I'll be Nine soon.", Giving one of her best smiles, Lili answered politely.
Hearing more and more voices, I couldn't help but get nervous and ask we move to the dining room. But the voices just got closer.

"What a nice abode! Any servings of cheese and wine?",
I knew that voice anywhere.

"Aaliyah!",

"Angela!",

We ran and met each other half way, she was hysterical in my arms babbing about long distance friendships.
"I'm so sorry, things have just been hectic and time consuming." I apologized

"Yeah I can see! You're engaged! And have a kid. Wow and to think you always thought I would be first.",

I laughed at that, I really did think Angela would settle first but oh how wrong was I. She's taking this well, maybe I was just over exaggerating people's reactions.

"Where's my daughter! Where is she ?!",

Oh no. Hell no.
"Aaliyah! Give papa some sugar.", I took the horrified look off my face long enough for me to run away from Angela and scream "Daddy!",

Hugging my pop, I kissed him on the cheek.
"How's my baby girl been, you getting married? Already?",

"I've been okay. Well Dad, I can't stay your little girl forever.",

"Nonsense. You'll always be little Lee to me.",

I smiled at the childhood nickname, I really did miss it.
"Look what the cat dragged in, nothing pleasant.", I heard my mom say. Oh no, they could never get along, but I needed them here.

"Shirl. How you been? Age doing ya well I see.",

"Can't say the same for you ya old geezer.",

"Momma, Daddy, please. This is my dinner." I pleaded.

Where the hell was Iain when you needed him?
Floods more of people came within just a few minutes. Illaina, Iain's sister, Tiffany, my sister and her child Tara. My cousin Kee and Auntie Dee. Along with Iain's estranged step brother, Jack. Also a few co workers. How could I forget Iain's mother Julia, she arrived a bit late.
Dinner was chatty, very chatty. Arguments ensued and laughter chimed, Tara and Lili running around like monkeys. I'm pretty sure they broke my poppy flower vase.
Getting a headache and quite fed up with it all Iain decided to make a toast.

"To my beautiful soon to be wife, my daughter Lili and my family. All of my family.",
I put up my glass along with many others.

"Cheers.",

Drinking some wine, I stood up.
"I have something to say.",
Sighing deeply, I began.
"I know some of you may not like each other, me, or even Iain but all I ask is for you all to put your differences aside for our wedding. I love Iain-",

"And I love you.",

"Yes, and he loves me, we want to get married without any issues, family or otherwise. So if any of you do not agree on this decision, I'm asking speak now or forever hold your peace.",
I closed my eyes waiting for someone to object but only silence rang through my ears.

"Thank you.", Sitting down I continued my dinner.
"Wedding invites will be sent out soon, and thank you all for coming and thank you for all who will attend.", Once Iain ceased speaking and sat down I began to hear conversation gradually pick up again.
Angela leaned over and whispered in my ear

"That went better than expected."

I chuckled lightly before answering

"It sure did.",
