Grandma.
I am coming.
I run faster than I ever have.
The physical activity slot paying off.
The empty paths give me a better look of the Gate. The current shift is over and the Guards are heading towards their next assignment.
I have thirty seconds before the next set of Guards arrive.
I will my legs to move faster.
I have to cut across the path. If I want to make it.
Shit.
From my peripheral view, I can see the next shift of guards arriving. They have noticed what I am doing.
They are running after me.
I have reached the Gate. I push it forward.
And with my luck, I trigger the alarm.
I cuss out loud.I need a key card to open the damn thing.
"Grab her!" one of the Guards shout.
A heavy arm grips my shoulder and yanks me away from the door.Shit. Shit. Shit.
I turn around to see a bulky Guard.
His partners are not far.
I look up at the Guard.
It's Randy Greene, Mrs.Greene's husband.
"Sorry." I apologize as I swiftly bring my knee up, between his legs.
He curses and crumples to the ground.
I snatch his key card and turn to swipe it."Stop, or we'll shoot." says a gruff voice. .
I look over my shoulder for a second, counting the number of Guards.
"Hold your fire!" says another voice.
A familiar voice.
All my muscles lock up and I freeze.
Dad.
I take advantage of the moment of shock amongst the Guards.
I swipe the card and shove the door open.
"LISA!" My Dad shouts as I run through the Gate.
I kick the Gate closed behind me.
I was on the Outside.
Alone.
