Cole abruptly stands up and leaves.

I go unnoticed until I am joined by a jealous Cara.

"I totally want to exchange places with you." She says.

I nod swiftly.

"You must be so bored. Cole being your default company..." She winces.

I shrug.

"Drop by more often." Cara provides,"Edgar n' all miss your enticing company." She jokes.

"Thanks, I guess."

She pats me on the shoulder and joins her group of friends.

I'm still jittery and worried when Cole comes back,"Lisa, go back to your tent. No. Don't come out until I come and get you."

"Why?"

"The Afrikans are coming."

I stare at him quizzically,"So?"

"If they're planning an attack on the Inside, then they'll want someone who as the latest knowledge of the Inside. You're the newest  person we've got. The last person who joined us came from the Inside two years ago. And not everyone in camp is used to your presence. They'll act uncomfortable around you." He explains.

"Okay."

I stand up as a man rushes over to Cole,"The Afrikans have arrived at camp. They have come faster than we presumed."

The man took off to tell the others.

"No time to go to your tent." He tells me. He ushers me into a tent beside the Commander's tent.

"Cole." I say,"What happens if I don't go and they take the person who came before me?"

"I don't know Lisa."

I shiver.

"I'll come to check on you in between." Cole assures and disappears.

I hear chattering from outside in a language that was not English

Ten minutes later, Cole returns.

"They're here." He says, zipping the tent shut behind him.

This tent is like mine but has a cluttered desk that Cole makes his way to.

He swears and mutters to himself and the joins my side on the bed.

"I'm sorry." He mumbles,"Your time here has been ruined since day one."

Without even meaning to, I wrap my arms around him. He sighs and hugs me back. His warm, muscular hands envelope me and I can't help but snuggle closer to him.

"Cole." I whisper,"Don't leave."

He doesn't reply.

I look up to his face. His eyes are closed.

He releases me and steps back,"I'm the Commander's second. I have to go."

I nod glumly.

"I'll get Cara to give you company." He says, stepping out of the tent.

A few minutes later, an excited Cara enters the tent.

She studies the tent with awe etched on her face.

"What?" I ask.

"This is Cole's tent." She whispers.

I swear I heard her mumble its an honor.
