Chapter 23: Get Back
30 January 1969
The last few months haven't been the best for the lads. They have been working in the studio and from Ritchie and Paul have told me it isn't a good time. We all didn't spend Christmas together like we usually do. Of course Ritchie, the kids and I went over to Paul and Kate's, but we didn't see the Lennons or Harrisons.
With things going roughly in the studio John made a comment to a reporter that The Beatles could be broken in six months. I still can't believe what's going on with them. John's completely different, George is distant a bit, Paul and Ritchie get on each other's nerves a bit but they fact that they're brother-in-laws keeps them on an okay basis.
On a more positive note--Paul and Kate had gotten married on the 11th. It was small a small ceremony, like Ritchie and I's. It was just Kate's family, my dad, step mum, Mike, Angie, Ritchie, myself and the kids. It was a wonderful little thing. Finally, all four of the Beatles are married.
Today the lads decided to have a concert on the rooftop of the Apple building. George Martin had asked Billy Preston to come in and play keyboard with them during it. Why have a concert on the roof? Don't ask me.
All of us wives were on the roof already waiting for them to start.
"Am I the only one who thinks this is a strange idea? I mean this doesn't seem like them.." Grace asked as she looked down at the view of the city.
"Nope, I'm completely with you on that one." I nodded as I watched all of them set up their instruments, amps, and such.
"Nothing's been the same since Brian passed.."
Grace nodded lightly as she turned to Kate. "So how's the married life treating you?"
"It's wonderful. I still can't believe we're finally married." Kate said as Paul came over to us.
"Did you tell them what's going on, Kate love?"
Bri looked over at them confused. "What do you mean?"
"We actually have some news."
"We're pregnant!" Kate exclaimed as Paul wrapped his arms around her.
"Oh my god, I can't believe it! I'm so happy for you!" Grace said as we all were engulfed in a giant hug.
"We just found out before the wedding. We're beyond excited to start our family."
"I'm finally going to have a niece or nephew!" I practically yelled as I hugged Paul tightly. "I'm so happy for you, big brother."
"Thank you, little sis. I knew you'd be excited."
"I can't believe my little Paulie is growing up.."
"Little? I'm not the little one here!"
"Enough of you brats arguing about who's the little one! We have a rooftop concert to do!" John yelled over to us as he tuned his guitar.
Paul rolled his eyes as he kissed Kate's forehead and walked over to the lads.
Soon the four of them started to play. They sang the songs "Get Back", "Don't Let Me Down" and "One After 909", just to name a few.
I walked around and took photographs of them as they sung. Seeing them perform now made me think about how much the lads have changed. I mean I've known them since they were little teddy boys and now they're all so grown up. Their hair is longer, they have facial hair. So much has changed over the years.
I was too lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice who has joined us on the roof.
"Pam. Hey, Pam, look." Kate said as she shook me lightly.
I looked over to see the police had made it up to the roof. Paul and John looked over and started playing Get Back again. The lads started to back off a bit with the playing at first, but my brother just kept singing. He wasn't going to let any police stop him. The others soon started up in full swing again.
I walked over to the police and looked at them. "Excuse me, what seems to be the problem officers?"
"They're causing a public disturbance. Everyone's gathering 'round, even cars. They need to stop this noise."
"People are enjoying the music. Now just let them finish this song and it'll be the end."
"Ma'am, they've been playing for long enough. This needs to end." The officer said as he tried to push past me to get to the lads.
I quickly moved and got back in front of him. Paul glanced over at me as they started to play their last song.
"This is the last one. I assure you that once this song is finished this will all be over."
"Fine. Never let this kind of thing happen again." He said as he and the other officers left.
I walked back over and stood with the rest of the wives. Soon they finished. Then John said the last words of the lads's last concert.
"I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we've passed the audition."

I'm so sorry this chapter is so short! I just kind of had writer block this week. I promise another chapter will be up soon. Thanks for reading!
