Chapter 16: Great Start to a New Year

After the party, I called my family and told them Happy New Year.

I called my mom first and we talked for awhile. I told her me and Justin were dating and she got so excited.

"I knew y'all would get together sometime." she had said.

She told me we looked great together and I said thanks.

After talking about how everybody was and all the family drama, she hung up.

Every thing was going great... until I got the call on January 3rd.

It was about noon, me and Justin were watching movies, when my mom called and said that my Grandpa was in the hospital.

My Grandma and Grandpa had bought a new treadmill and my Grandpa made it go too fast and he started shaking really bad. He wasn't breathing and my Aunt Donna had to call 911 while my Grandma was trying to help him.

The doctors told her he had had a stroke. While my mom was telling me this I started bawling.

I love my Grandpa. He always played with me and Ryen when we were little. Anything we needed, anything we wanted, he got it for us no matter what.

I told her okay and that I would try to catch a flight back home that night.

She hung up and Justin held me while I cried. He asked me what happened and I told him.

He told me we could catch a flight back home today. He got up to tell Lexi and his mom and I laid curled up on the couch.

He packed my stuff for me and put our bags in the car. Lexi packed her stuff too and also put it the car.

Justin lead me to the backseat and I sat down. I felt numb.

I had no idea if he was going to live or not.

Pattie sat in the driver's seat. I guessed she was driving us.

Lexi opened my door and hugged me tight. She let go after about 5 minutes and sat in the passengers seat.

Justin sat in the back with me and I scooted to the middle. I laid my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes.

I must have fallen asleep because Justin was gently shaking me.

"Baby you need to get up, we're at the airport." He said looking sad.

I nodded my head and unbuckled and slid out. Pattie got out with us to say goodbye. She came to me first.

"I'm so sorry Soph. You'll feel better I promise. Things will get better." she hugged me tight with sympathy. She then went to Justin.

"Take care of her. She needs you."

I was standing next to Lexi now and she put her arms around me in a side ways hug.

"I love you Justin. Be a good strong boy for her, you understand? She is like a daughter to me." despite all the sadness I was feeling I smiled, even though it was small it was still a smile.

"Yesmam I will Mama. I will always be there when she needs me. Bye I love you mom." She hugged him and came over to Lexi and Justin followed.

He opened his arms and I ran into them my head on his chest. She talked to Lexi for a while. I didn't really hear what she said because I was sobbing in Justin's chest.

Pattie left after she said her goodbyes. We boarded the private plane. I fell into one of the seats and just sat there staring off into space.

Justin's POV
