Substitute for Teleportation

The first trial grounds of the Heavenly Demon Sect consist of a single room that doesn't look like anything special.

"..."

With folded arms Ye Gui Feng who has assumed his frost covered face of Yao Xieshen looks about in the room.

"How strange. There clearly doesn't seem like there's anything special about this room."

Yao Xieshen takes a step forward.

*Shu!* an arrow immediately flies by his head.

"I see."

This explains to Yao Xieshen why this entire room is so spacious. From here to the gates on the far side is a total of 15,000 meters of distance to cover.

"Perfect place for me to practice the Phoenix Dance."

Taking a deep breath Yao Xieshen takes another step forward with the movements of the Phoenix Dance. Dark feathers fall where he once stood as he reappears a meter away.

Instantly 20 arrows fly towards him as Yao Xieshen leans his upper body back before his hands press onto the ground and he flips backwards.

Upon landing Yao Xieshen takes another step forward with the same movement and reappearing another meter away while 30 arrows fly at him!

*Wrawr!!* the Ghostly Spirit Body is unleashed as Yao Xieshen's cultivation base and the Heart of the Ice Demon begins to rotate fiercely!

The air freezes as dense ice shields form around Yao Xieshen.

The arrows easily puncture through the ice shield only to stop an inch away from Yao Xieshen's head. Unbothered by the close call he takes another step forward.

This time 50 arrows fly at Yao Xieshen.

"Tch."

A few arrows readily shatter the ice shields around Yao Xieshen as he steps back.

Yao Xieshen's figure blurs as dark feathers fall before he reappears two meters away. The right shoulder of his robes had an evident cut on it.

Take another step forward 100 arrows come in from both sides while the ceiling above Yao Xieshen rains down another 50 arrows!

Through flips and quick evasive maneuvers Yao Xieshen dodges them with a few tears on his clothes.

For a total of 15 minutes Yao Xieshen continuously moves without staying in a single spot for more than a single second.

After a series of Phoenix Dance movements Yao Xieshen manages to cover 5,000 meters of distance in under an hour.

This is a checkpoint that allows some rest to which Yao Xieshen readily takes as he begins to absorb the souls of the dead in this area.

At this time Yao Xieshen's robes had already been filled with countless cuts and there were even a few wounds on his body.

"If he can cover 2,000 meters with that movement in a single step then he has found himself a replacement for teleportation."

With only 10,000 meters to go Yao Xieshen stares at the gate into the second trial grounds.

Once he moves from this checkpoint Yao Xieshen guesses that more than 1,000 arrows will come flying at him from the experience of their numbers increasing per distance covered.

These arrows didn't just appear from the side walls any longer. They also appear from the ceilings and grounds now.

Standing back up after an hour of resting Yao Xieshen continues to take another step forward.
