A Master's Debt Is for the Disciple to Carry

"..."

Xie Mo Xin readily takes a grilled fish off of the plate and begins to eat. He won't say a word and will simply watch how things develop between his disciple and Sun Yuanzuo.

"Alright I won't delay your meal. I simply have a few things that I must tell you. First is your importance here in the sect. Second is the Fallen Warriors' Ruins."

(Ah so it's only this. Good, good.)

Ye Gui Feng nods as Sun Yuanzuo begins to speak.

"First with your Heavenly Demon physique you are considered a high candidate as someone that will become the future sect master of the Heavenly Demon Sect."

Ye Gui Feng outwardly looks calm but inwardly he sucks in a breath of cold air.

(What!? Sect master?)

Ye Gui Feng clears his throat before opening his mouth to speak.

"Uh... This... Sect master Sun I wanted to ask but between... Let's say the Lan family and the sect which one has a higher standing?"

"Hm?"

Sun Yuanzuo raises an eyebrow upon hearing Ye Gui Feng bringing up the name of one of the major demonic cultivation families.

Ye Gui Feng has no idea how big the power difference amongst the four families are but if he can get a general comparison it would be enough.

"The obvious answer should be that the Lan family is bigger. The only sects that are above these families are those supreme sects that are located further up there in the tiers."

"Ah..."

Inwardly Ye Gui Feng frowns. He didn't want to become the sect master of the Heavenly Demon Sect.

If he wanted to show Yao Xie Xian who's the real boss between them Ye Gui Feng had to get a status that even the Yao family will have to look up upon with complete and utter respect.

"Sect master Sun I'll be honest but... I have no interest in becoming your successor."

Sun Yuanzuo's lips twitched. This is the first time that he has heard anyone being so honest with him in not wanting to become the sect master.

"Xiao Feng amongst the other Legacy Disciples nothing is more important to them than becoming the future sect master."

"Perhaps to them that's all that matters but to me... I believe my path lies elsewhere. I do not yet know where but becoming the sect master of the Heavenly Demon Sect will not be enough to fulfill my desires."

"This..."

Speculations went through Sun Yuanzuo's head.

(If he truly doesn't want to become sect master this could be bad... But forcing him will make it even worse.)

Placing someone into a job that they don't want will only mean inefficiency and this is something that Sun Yuanzuo has learned through his many years of living.

(He brought up the Lan family. Does this mean that he is a member of the Lan family? From what Mo Xin said that shouldn't be the case. But then... Is he really being honest in saying that his goals can't be accomplished by becoming the sect master?)

Seeing as how Sun Yuanzuo isn't giving a reply and how he has his eyebrows furrowed Ye Gui Feng opens his mouth to speak.

"Sect master I mean no disrespects but... I really can't take on this role. It would be best if you find someone else for the job. Besides I'm really just a Legacy Disciple that had popped out of nowhere. There's no way for me to compete with the others who had stayed in this sect for longer. To me this place is... Merely a stop in my journey."
