The mayor stood in a concrete dome - shaped sculpture. Two guards stood at his side. Huge screens illuminated his face and when he spoke, his voice blared through the loudspeakers.
"I have bad news", said the mayor. Instantly everyone's attention turned on him.
"Certain spies have reported that the neighbouring town of Merope is planning to conquer Cirices. This attack is planned to happen tomorrow night". The crowd gasped in horror. Some people let out shrieks.
"We don't want to lose Cirices. We don't want anyone to be under Merope's rule. We absolutely won't let the Meropian troops overtake Cirices".
A murmur ran through the crowd.
"However, even worse, someone has been kidnapped or has run away. This person is Sara Brown. She is a young teenager who is the daughter of the wealthy village man James Brown and his wife, June Brown".
Abigail and Magda gasped in horror. Sara was one of their closest friends, but nobody would be hurt more than Lokeyia. Sara was like a soulmate to Lokeyia and they had been inseparably close friends.
"Now", continued the mayor, "we have one of Sara's closest friends tell us why she might have ran away, how she could be kidnapped...anyway here she is".
The guards motioned to the entrance and a girl stepped up at took her place next to the mayor. Sparkling blue eyes. Hip - long blonde hair. It was none other than Lokeyia.
"Now dear, why do you think Sara might have ran away?"
"Well", said Lokeyia in a shaky voice, "it could have been anything. Depression. Fear. However when I last saw her she showed none of those things". On the huge screens, you could easily see the tight lines on her face, which grew tighter every second.
"Good girl. Do you know where she might have gone"?
"I can't exactly say where she went. The most likely place is the forest but if she were kidnapped, after the news you told us, I think the kidnapper would have taken her to Merope".
"Thank you, Lokeyia. Do you know anyone else who might know more information than you?"
"I can suggest my friends, but I was closer to Sara than them"
"OK. Thank you. You may go", said the mayor and nodded to the guards, who led her out.
