In seemed hours until the smog cleared. The horses choked and retched. Abigail looked back at the Tarabians. All were as still as a rock. Lokeyia choked and coughed out a pile of ashes. Sara banged her on the back. Sara blew her nose on a clean leaf.

"Ewww... it's got charcoal in it. Gross!" she exclaimed.

Magda took out her handkerchief and rubbed her eyes, which had bits of charcoal, irritating them. Luckily, Abigail had none of these things because she covered her mouth and nose with her shirt. However, the stench of charcoal in her throat was unmistakable. It smelled like she just passed one hundred smokers, smoking their disgusting papery tubes.

They all knew they had to move on but everyone was too confused and dazed to navigate, so the journey wasn't navigated. There was one thing they all knew - it was fatal to go South so they travelled North as far and fast as they could.

The day seemed to dawn. The further they moved, the further everything became lighter. Lokeyia was already snoring away on Jade so Sara took lead. Abigail and Magda were also beginning to doze off. Only Sara was fully awake. Suddenly, Sara let out a shriek, making Abigail jump.

"We're no... we can't... Merope!"

"What?!..." Abigail stared at the sky to the skyscrapers. Lokeyia sat up, bolt awake.

"I'm sorry.." she said, leading Sara off Jade and onto Mervis. She turned to leave but found her path (to her surprise) blocked by Abigail.

"There is no turning around, Lokeyia. We're going to Merope." Abigail said. Lokeyia looked like she wanted to say something but didn't mutter a word.

"There is only one problem. Our costumes aren't innocent in the least. We will have to steal knives for me and Lokeyia too. We can't hide a bow, a quiver of arrows and a sword." Abigail said, thoughtfully.

"I'll go." Lokeyia volunteered.

Abigail slipped on her mother's green t shirt and black jeans and sneakers. Lokeyia put on her turquoise top and flared navy pants and left.
