Chapter 23

Vincent Bloomingdale sat on the couch in his house. His best friend was talking to his ex-girlfriend. He knew that wasn't good.

"Ken, what are you doing?" Vincent asked.

"What do you mean?" Kendall put his phone away.

"You're talking to your ex-girlfriend shortly after you broke up." Vincent stood up.

"We're trying to be friends." Kendall tried to lie, but his voice cracked.

"You're a horrible liar, Ken." Vincent pointed out.

"Just leave it alone, Vincent."

"For now." Vincent gave in.

I sat in the hallway at midnight, waiting for Vincent to come in. Kingsley was going to ask him on a date. The door opened and closed. Vincent's voice echoed through the house.

"Hello Kingsley."

"Hey Vincent." Kingsley greeted him.

"How's brown eyes?" Vincent asked.

"I think she's upstairs. She and Kendall have been hanging out."

"I heard them on the phone." Vincent said.

"I wonder what it could be." Kingsley's voice was quiet.

"Has Vivian brought up something unusual?"

"Just about us...." She trailed off. "Vivian!"

"What's going on?"

"Kendall and Vivian are trying to get us together." She informed him.

I hear Vincent's phone dialing. "Kendall William Sparks, get over to Vivian's now." I was about to run to my room, but Kingsley appeared right next to me. She towed me downstairs. Kendall showed up moments later. Vincent told him to sit down.

"What do you think you're doing?"

"Nothing." I responded quickly.

"Enough, Viv. They've figured it out."

"We just wanted you two to be together." I admitted.

"Don't pretend you don't know why you're really doing this?" Kingsley demanded.

"For you two." Kendall said.

"No. You used our feelings for each other to hang out together." Vincent sat next to us. He was right. We did this to be around each other. Vincent and Kingsley would have gotten together by themselves. I got up and went upstairs. Kendall followed.

"Viv, it's not true." He insisted.

"Yes it is. We're fooling ourselves."

"I still love you, Vivian." He used my full name.

"We need to stay away from each other."

He sighed. "We do."

"Goodbye Kendall."

"Goodbye Vivian."
