you know those moments when someone is talking to you, they have your full attention, but you can't understand a word of what they're saying. as if what they said came into one ear and then came out the other.

well, that's me right now.

i can see my mother's lips moving, but i can't hear a thing she's saying. maybe it's because i barely got any sleep last night, or maybe it's the fact that zabdiel is currently upstairs hiding in my room.

a soft mumble is all i can decipher. couldn't she choose a day where i was in all my senses to lecture me?

a knock at the door startled me. did i fall asleep? i hope not. i won't hear the end of it if i did.

"queen, there's someone at the door."

mother got up and whispered something to the maid that had spoken before making her way to the door. mother opening the door? who could it possibly be?

my face fell when i saw alexander walking into the library with christopher following behind. christopher sat beside me and kissed my forehead. i smiled at the small gesture.

i kissed his cheek before getting up. "if you excuse me, i will be back in a minute."

my mother stood up. "where are you going, my dear?"

"nowhere that concerns you, mother."

i smiled and walked out the door. i could practically hear the smoke coming out of her ears.

i ran upstairs to my room, probably seemed like a crazy woman.

i slammed the door close behind me and locked it. i rested my back against the door and took a deep breath. man, i need to run more often.

"you look like you just ran a marathon."

i scoffed and looked at zabdiel. "thanks for indirectly saying i look like shit. anyways, you have to sneak out. christopher and his brother are here."

he frowned. "i thought we would spend the day together. i don't get many free days anymore."

"i'm sorry." i pouted. "i did want to spend the day with you." i heard a sound coming out of my room. i grabbed zabdiel's hand and pulled him to the small balcony attached to my room. "i've got to go, someone could come get me and find you here."

he groaned. "fine. i'm leaving. but you've got to make it up to me." he winked.

i smiled and rolled my eyes. he took a step towards me, i tried to step away but my back collided with the wall. in a second he placed his hands on my hips and pulled me towards him. i looked up at him and realized how close we were.

i bit my lip and looked away from him. "zabdiel."

he hummed as one of his hands came up to my cheek. "calm down woman, i'm leaving."

he leaned down. i felt my heart stop. he kissed the corner of my lips and i could swear the air leave my lungs. when he pulled away, he smirked. my heart began to beat, but this time it felt like it would jump out of my ribcage. i let out a shaky breath.
