(O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion)49:12
The Prophet -Sallah Allahu Alyhi Wasalam- said, "Isa (Jesus), seeing a man stealing, asked him, 'Did you steal?.
He said, 'No, by Allah, except Whom there is None who has the right to be worshiped'
Isa -Alyhi Asalaam- said, 'I believe in ALLAH and suspect my eyes."
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " رَأَى عِيسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ رَجُلاً يَسْرِقُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ أَسَرَقْتَ قَالَ كَلاَّ وَاللَّهِ الَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ. فَقَالَ عِيسَى آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ وَكَذَّبْتُ عَيْنِي "
[Saheeh al-Bukhari]
*Isa -Alyhi Asalaam- gave the benefit of the doubt to someone who gave an oath denying what Isa witnessed with his own eyes to avoid suspicion.
Now, many base their judgments on gossip, mere suspicion and gut feelings, refusing explanations and oaths.
The possibility of being wrong in thinking good of others, is better than having a suspicion that you regret.
