I took a deep breath in before pressing the door ring bell, preparing myself for this evening. My grandma was sure to at least cry a few when she saw me after a long time. From happiness of course.

I heard somebody fiddle with the door knob before the door was pulled open, revealing my grandma's mesmerizing silver eyes and her beautiful genuinely happy smile.

She rushed towards me, her arms wide open, grabbing me and pulling me into her comforting embrace.

She yelled at my grandpa, making me wince at her loud voice so close to my ear. Her voice was slightly thick and I knew right there the tears had already started.

My grandpa appeared in the foyer and when he spotted me, he rushed over to me, pushing my grandma gently away saying 'That's enough for you' and pulling me into his embrace instead.

A low chuckle escaped my lips as I hugged this old man back.

"You're too early." My grandma said sternly, probably worried that the food wasn't finished yet. But as her eyes ranked over me, she smiled at me again.

"Just look how beautiful my grandchild is." My grandpa said softly, with a hint of proudness in his tone when he pulled away.

"Yea," She nodded stunningly but wasn't looking at me at all. She was looking somewhere behind me as she said: "And look how handsome our new grandson-in-law is."

Right, I completely forgot about this burden, standing right behind me.

Immediately, my grandpa pushed me aside when his eyes landed on Diego. Stepping closer to him, he sized him up warily.

"We're going to have a little chitchat." My grandpa said, putting an arm around Diego, steering him further into the house.

Diego looked everything but worried or scared. Actually no, he looked nothing but his neutral unreadable self.

"Oh, don't worry." I heard my grandma chuckle. "You know how grandpa is. He won't scare him off that much." She joked, pushing me into the house.

Normally, I would be worried for Diego but since it was him who we were talking about, I wasn't a bit scared. Not a bit. If I was worried, it was for my grandpa. For the first time in my life, I was worried that my grandpa wouldn't be able to break someone.

On the contrary, I feared grandpa's approval. Grandpa's instincts about people were splendid. He was always good in reading people, way better than me.

With Grandpa's approval, it could mean only two things:
a) Diego being a good person for real.
b) Diego being a better manipulative liar than I thought possible.

"I am so sorry we couldn't make it to your wedding." My grandma said as we entered the kitchen.

"No worries." I dismissed her disappointment with my hand. "It wasn't a real wedding, we just signed papers. The real ceremony's going to be in September." I said, not really paying attention to what I was saying.
