The wind howled, piling up snow in drifts, blinding the evening with ice-white dust. I walked with my head bent down as my hair fluttered in the air, my clothes clung to my body, arms tightly wrapped around me.

I felt the cold wind stroking my skin as if I were its enemy, and yet I continued walking, not stopping for anything.

I walked unusually slowly, almost robotically, as if my brain was struggling to tell each foot to take the next step. It was as if I were in a stupor, as if under hypnosis, as if the cold managed to freeze my neurons, forbidding me from thinking.

As I glanced up at the sky, snowflakes fell on my face, caressing my cheeks with cold kisses. My soul mirrored the winter sky, full of clouds without a single star showing its light.

I closed my eyes before looking back down to my feet, watching them move on the white carpet of the fresh snow, leaving soft footmarks behind as my feet carried me away.

I could've been walking for hours, who knows? My mind was turned off, not bothered by anything.

I knew Diego's men have been following me since I walked out of the house. I bet Diego made his orders clear for them.

Two of them were walking behind me while the other two were in a car, slowly driving in a safe distance.

My legs came to a halt when my eyes finally glimpsed the familiar gate and the enormous estate behind it.

I recognized Mr. Forbs, the head of father's security, rushing out of the security house towards the gate after he probably spotted me via security cameras.

"Ms. Clarkson." Mr. Forbs exhaled in surprise before quickly opening the pedestrian security gate beside the main gate.

"What are you doing here alone? And in this cold?" He asked with concern once he let me enter and then closed the gate behind me.

"How are you doing, Mr. Forbs?" I asked, giving him a tight smile since my face muscles were frozen.

"Good, Ms. Clarkson, thank you." He smiled back at me. "But how are you? Why are you here all alone?"

"I missed my old room." I shuddered from cold. "I'm gonna stay here tonight."

Mr. Forbs walked with me till the front door and waited until I entered. I took a deep breath in before taking my coat off and my shoes as well as my gym bag.

The house was surrounded by pure silence as per usual. I had no idea if my parents were home but I wouldn't mind if they weren't. I wanted to be left alone.
