"You can't be serious!" Luke choked. I grabbed his arm and pinched it. I couldn't ruin this for my dad. He had this foreign smile on his face that I hadn't seen on him since my mom left. He was happy. And godforbid any of us had knew about this for god knows how long...But he looked happy.
"Could you excuse us for a little bit?" I said to my dad and Liz as I dragged Luke across the restaurant into another random corner.
"Can you believe this?" Luke said rather loudly in disgust. No, I couldn't but I would probably have to learn to.
"Listen, I can't... I don't wanna ruin this for my dad. Or your mom... I-"
"What are you saying, Hal?" He inquired nervously, cutting me off.
I gulped. "We can't tell them about us, Luke. We can't."
He couldn't speak. His face seemed to change to a light tint of pink and at the moment, I knew he wanted to scream.
"Hal, I... I can't just do that! I love you! I'm in love with you! I've held in my feelings for you for too long! I can't just stop again!" He ran his fingers through his hair in panic.
"I love you, too-" But before I could manage another word, I felt his warm lips crash into mine. His tongue caressed my mouth and his rhythm was very soft and gentle. His hands traveled down my body and wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer as he backed me up against a wall.
"Ahem!" A waiter coughed as he passed us by, disapproving of our PDA in the restaurant. I mean, I couldn't blame him, I was just glad we were out of our parent's sight.
"Luke," I said pushing him away to face him. "I really love my father and I want to see him happy again. That'll make me happy. Don't you want me to be happy?" Luke slowly nodded. "If you truly love me, you'll do this to make me happy..."
I wanted to burst into tears at the moment, but I had to be strong for my dad but mostly for Luke.
"So, we're gonna go out there and tell them we're happy for them?" I asked as I bit down on my tongue to distract myself from letting tears stream down my face.
"Yeah..." Luke lightly kicked the ground to hold in his anger. I couldn't blame him. We would have to go back to our old life. Or maybe not even. Things would probably never be the same between us. We would be just a friendship full of some broken promises after all.
"Unless," he started and a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.
"What?" I asked, cocking my head to the side.
"What if I asked you something crazy that made it so we could stay together no matter what they say?" His face lit up and he smirked.
"What?" I repeated a little scared at what he was about to say now.
"Haleigha," Luke started, "What if we got married or something? Like, just for the hell of it. It wouldn't make any difference anyways. I just want to stay with you."
