What had he just said? Marry me? I must've been dreaming this or... He was completely crazy. I shook my head and pulled my hand away as he tried to grab it.
"Hemmings, are you completely and utterly insane?" I had lost the need to cry and now I was just shocked and confused.
"Why not? It's the perfect excuse... I- I love you and you love me... You're all I want, Hal. I can't go back to before! Back to pretending, back to just friends!" Luke choked and a tear streaked down his cheek and touched his pink lips.
I took a long sigh. "Luke, we're too young. It's not worth it. I can't be married to someone who's in a traveling band while I'm off at college next year in god knows where... another state, probably. It's too much. I love you now, isn't that enough?"
Without another word, I walked back to our parents, and I didn't look back to see if he followed. He was being crazy right now, and I couldn't deal with it.
"Dad, Mrs. Hemmings? Luke and I would like to say we're sorry for our behavior, and we're very happy for you two." I was on the verge of crying again, but I held it back.
They took each other's hands from across the table which made me wince. "Thank you, dear." Liz said. My father nodded with a smile.
I pulled out a five dollar bill from my pocket and threw it on our table as I walked passed it. Then, I left the restaurant, not looking back to see where Luke was. At the moment, I didn't care and then I realized we had taken the same car over here.
I pulled out my phone and dialed a number.
"Jesse, it's Haleigha. I was wondering if you could give me a ride."
