I quietly walked back to the school in my soaking wet graduation gown. It was probably not supposed to get it this wet and I was only renting it. But I would deal with that problem later. Right now I had bigger problems to think about.
"Hal!" A familiar voice called to me once I re-entered the gym. I was receiving several looks due to my appearance, but I didn't care. I searched for the owner of the voice that had called my name in the crowd.
"Oh my god, why the hell did you go outside?" Another voice chuckled as the three appeared out of a group of people.
"Hey guys," I mumbled to Calum, Michael and Ashton.
"Why the long face?" Ashton pouted at my sad expression. He was dressed rather nice today in a cardigan and dress pants, not something he usually wore.
"Yeah, you look so sad," Calum added, still in his gown and cap.
I took my hat off as water trickled off the brim and onto the floor. Then I ran my fingers through my now wet, tanglely hair. "Luke was here."
"What? No way! Luke was here?" Michael piped up in surprise. I nodded.
"Wait... was? He left!?" Ashton added and I nodded again.
"Why would he just leave? I didn't even see him in the first place!" Michael looked at the boys with an angry expression and crossed his arms like a child.
"Look guys, don't freak out, it's fine." I assured the three. "You'll probably hear from him soon-- he still has his intentions to be in the band and all. As for me... I think we're over."
"What?" They all said in unison.
"What the hell happened now?" Michael tensed up and tightened his jaw in anger. Lately he seemed to be way more done with Luke's shit than the other two boys were.
"I guess the fact I'm going away to college and you guys are going to be off doing different things with your band got to him... and he thought it would be easier to end things now," I shrugged and water rolled down my gown.
"Oh Hally," Calum pulled me in for a hug as Mikey and Ashton quickly joined in afterwards. "We're here for you."
"Thanks guys," I sniffed, wiping a new tear off my cheek. "I just can't believe it's over..."
"Hey..." Ashton cooed. "We're talking about Luke here, right? He's always been crazy for you. You've been his number one girl since day one. He'll come around."
I smiled for a brief second. "Thanks Ashton, but I think this time it's for good..." No one else said a word, they all just looked at me sympathetically. "Hey, why don't we all go out for those smoothies you suggested this morning, Michael!" I tried to perk up a little.
"We're going out for smoothies?" Calum looked confused and Michael elbowed him in the chest. "Oh, right... I remember now..." Calum grunted in pain and Ashton giggled.
"Um, okay," I said. "Let me just go find my parents and tell them where I'm going so I can make sure my mom isn't leaving again yet. We can't be out for long because I really want to spend some time with her afterwards!"
"Your mother is here?" Michael's eyes widened in surprise.
"Yeah, Mikey. Catch up!" Calum elbowed him right back in the chest as Ashton began to giggle uncontrollably again.

the promise ➳ hemmings
Hayran Kurgu| Promises are just very sincere lies. We make them thinking that we'll keep them. But in time, our motivation to keep them fades-- just like the hope and trust others had in us that they wouldn't. It's just sad to think that's what our relationship...
