My heart sunk into my stomach. How could he do this to me? ...Even after what I had done, how could he do this to me?
During our friendship I had seen Luke hook up with handfuls of girls, but now just the very thought of it was making me cringe right in front of him. Maybe it was because I had never thought too hard about what happened when he disappeared with the girls at the clubs we went to. But now after everything that had happened between us, it was definitely getting to me. Even though I had left him in the first place (which had given him the right to do whatever he wanted,) I still just thought he was better than that.
"Oh," I choked out. It was all I could say at the moment because I was hurt. I was also feeling an extreme amount of hatred towards the girl standing at Luke's side, whoever she was. Why was she at Calum's house at this time of day anyways? She had probably spent the night with Luke last night and the thought of that just made my heart sink even deeper.
"Haleigha, listen," Luke made a face full of pain. He opened his mouth to continue, but I cut him off.
"No, Luke. I just... I thought you were finally serious about us and now..." I gave off a heartless chuckle at the whole situation. "I don't know."
"Me serious? If you had been serious about us you wouldn't have left me twice!" Luke shouted so loud I feared he was waking up the whole neighborhood. He had a point though, but he still didn't understand that I had only left for all the right reasons.
"I think you should leave," the blond girl butt in rudely.
"Talia," Luke said finally acknowledging her. "I think you need to leave." Her jaw dropped in shock and her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"You can't be serious," Talia piped whilst stomping her foot on the ground like a child. "Who the hell is this girl anyways to just come here and butt into our sex life!?"
"We had sex once, Talia. And it was a mistake!" Luke yelled and then I knew from the look on his face that he hadn't meant to have said that out loud. Talia's eyes widened, and anger grew within them. Her jaw tightened; I knew she wanted to destroy both of us now.
"What the fuck do you mean 'it was a mistake?'" She shouted. She didn't seem sad about it, just furious. Like, it was more of a possibly for her to throw a punch right now than to break down crying.
"I was drunk, and I wasn't thinking! And you took advantage of that!" Luke pointed at her in accusation.
"Bullshit, you loved it. You wouldn't have done it if you hadn't of wanted to lose your virginity to me!" Talia shot right back. Suddenly, I was confused again. Lose his virginity to her? But Luke and I had had sex. Luke wasn't a virgin..?
"Look Talia, I'm sorry you have to hear it this way but what happened last night shouldn't have happened," he sighed. I had mixed emotions about watching all of this unfold.
"You are an inconsiderate asshole and I don't want anything to do with you!" Talia spat through her thin pink lips. "So take your whore ex-girlfriend and fucking disappear!" She stomped over to the front door where my eyes then fell upon Cal and Ash. They had not moved since Talia had interrupted and had watched this whole thing unravel. Luke noticed them too, and I looked back at him to see he was furious about it.
"Come with me," Luke growled, grabbing me by the wrist rather tightly.
"What? No!" I screamed as I tried to pull away from him. But his grip around my arm was too tight.
"Hal." Luke looked down on me with his infamous crystal blue eyes. "We need to talk in private, get in the car," he drawled.
For some reason I knew he had some type of meaningful explanation for me, or at least he would try to make one. And for some other reason, I knew I wanted to hear it.
"Fine," I relaxed my arm from struggling. "I'll go move my car." He nodded.
While I was moving my car, I thought about how Luke was trusting me that I wouldn't just drive away in it instead. That was just enough to keep me from actually doing it. I knew he really was expecting me to listen to what he had to say.
I parked on the street and saw Luke in my side-mirror give a large sigh of relief. Then, I got into his car without a word, and he began to back out of the driveway that I could probably never drive up to again without remembering all that had just happened.
So at this point, it was make it or break it between us. I had promised myself I would be prepared for this point in time, but now I was beginning to find out that promises were everything except what I had thought they were:
Promises are just very sincere lies. We make them thinking that we'll keep them. But in time, our motivation to keep them fades-- just like the hope and trust others had in us that they wouldn't. It's just sad to think that's what our relationship was built on.
