Chapter 11

Jennifer

The best I could do was wolfsbane. There was a cave not too far from where we were that had an ocean full of them. Once I get Shepard to truly trust me maybe he'll tell me exactly where we're at.

Slow and steady wins the race.

I had to create a makeshift lab using the kitchen. Wolfsbane is extremely poisonous and there is no cure for that. I had on a rubber apron, rubber gloves, ski goggles, rubber rain boots and a cough mask. If I infected myself by accident it would be game over. I just needed 2 mg of the root which I was currently grinding up with a mortar and pestle. Shepard was also standing ran over my shoulder. He was afraid I would keep some of the poison and use it on him. I have something much worse planned for him.

"Is it done?" He asked.

It was, but I was going to take advantage of the situation.

"Just a few more minutes", I said.

Once I made the poison for Shepard he would be gone all day. Leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere. I had tried escaping once before, before learning we were truly in the middle of no where. Nothing for miles and miles.

"Once this is made is it going to put us in danger", I asked.

"No", he a little too quickly.

"Listen, I have no idea what game you're playing. Or even what side you're playing for. Whoever you're about to kill with this be careful", I said turning my head to face him. Shepherd was handsome, but it was his eyes that made him stand out. They sparkled like storm clouds right before lightning hit. Clouds of grey and blue threatened floods and fury.

They give away his secrets away.

"You say that like you care", he said raising an eyebrow.

"I meant what I said. I really do want a redo. And I still have a heart, everyday you walk out that door there's a possibility you won't ever come back. And rather you like it or not I depend on you. If anything ever happened to you..." I couldn't finish my sentence because I knew Hector wouldn't just kill me he would take his time. Torture me and then once he's had his fill of me I would died. And it would be a violent end.

"Don't think like that", he said softly," I've done things like this a thousand times. I'm not going to die, especially with you as my nurse".

"Doctor", I corrected him. He gave a small laugh,"And finished", I said. I poured the wolfbane into a small vial and handed it to Shepherd,"Even God himself could not save whoever you give this to. Good luck".

"Thanks", he said shaking the vile. I took off my gloves, mask and apron. I bent down taking off the boot I looked up to Shepherd and for the briefest of seconds I saw a hunger in his eyes.

Pure need. And desire.

Honk! Honk! Hhhhhooonnnnkkk!

Moment over.

This was normal, Hector's gang coming to pick up Shepherd. He rushed for the door slamming it shut behind him.

Or maybe the moment never existed. He never ran out the door that fast. I watched Shepherd from the kitchen window climb into the back of the Jeep. As soon as he sat down they sped off disappearing in the distance.

"Now it's time to work on you", hallucination me said appearing next to me leaning against the sink.

I need construction zone work.
